Bands Added to KCRW’s Made in L.A. Music Series at the Hammer

Allah-Las and Chicano Batman

Added to KCRW’s Made in L.A. Music Series

at the Hammer Museum

SANTA MONICA, CA, June 12, 2012 The talented music tastemakers from Los Angeles public radio KCRW (89.9FM and KCRW.com) will take up residence in the Hammer Museum’s outdoor courtyard this summer in celebration of Made in L.A. 2012 and shine a spotlight on the wide array of music created in our city. The free events take place on Thursdays from June 28 to August 9 and begin at 7pm, with the museum staying open late night.

Two special evenings will feature live performances from up and coming local artists the Allah-Las and Chicano Batman.

On July 12, KCRW DJ Anne Litt will play some tunes and host the Allah-Las who channel a distinctively California sound, as they call it “the perfect mixture of the sands, the seas, the streets and cities of the golden state”.

“On my first listen to the Allah-Las, I loved them immediately. With a ‘60s West Coast dance groove, they are a perfect fit for this series and one of my early picks for LA breakout band of the year. Picture the gorgeous Hammer courtyard on a warm summer night, art, cocktails and the perfect sounds. I can’t wait!” said Litt.

On August 9, KCRW DJ Anthony Valadez will spin a set of music and host East LA’s Chicano Batman. The quartet’s globetrotting sound includes soul, 70’s Brazilian Bossa Nova, spacey psychedelia and surf rock cumbia. The LA Times says they “nail the essence of summer music” and it will be the perfect match for this outdoor setting.

Both bands will begin at 9pm. View the full Made in L.A. Music lineup below and here.

For these events, which are free and open to the public, KCRW DJs will select sets inspired by the idea of the “Made in L.A.”, an exhibit featuring emerging and under-recognized LA artists. The shows all begin at 7pm and the museum will be open late.

There will be a cash bar as well.

Generous support for Made in L.A. Music is provided by The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, AquaHydrate, and IKEA Burbank.

The newest HD channel is another example of KCRW’s growing commitment to providing listeners with choices in how they consume the public radio station’s programming. The free, full service HD channel will broadcast KCRW’s signature music programming, Eclectic24. Created by former KCRW music director and current DJ Chris Douridas, Eclectic24 is KCRW’s 24-hour music discovery center, offering an eclectic menu of artists and musical styles drawn from the playlists of the station’s talented stable of deejays.

“KCRW’s mission is to share the best of music, news and culture, with as wide an audience as possible and through whatever means available,” says KCRW General Manager Jennifer Ferro. “This technology allows us to deliver our excellent full-service music station, Eclectic24, to people where they spend a lot of time listening – through their car radio. KCRW Music Director Jason Bentley to Host Inaugural EDMbiz Conference

KCRW Music Director Jason Bentley to Host Inaugural EDMbiz Conference

The event will unite industry leaders and businesses to discuss the growth and impact of Electronic Dance Music

Las Vegas — June 5-7

www.edmbiz.com

SANTA MONICA, CA, May 29, 2012 KCRW Music Director Jason Bentley will serve as host of the inaugural EDMbiz conference at The Cosmopolitan hotel in Las Vegas June 5-7 prior to the 16th annual Electric Daisy Carnival, which takes place the following weekend. In addition to hosting, he will assist with programming and curation for the Insomniac event, which aims to unite industry leaders and pioneers with businesses to focus on moving Electronic Dance Music forward at a time when it is dramatically impacting mainstream culture and commerce.

Confirmed attendees include keynote speaker Perry Farrell, Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino, Atlantic Records Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman, Kaskade, William Morris Head of Music Marc Geiger, Swedish House Mafia’s Steve Angello, Beatport CEO Matt Adell and more.

“As electronic dance music reaches new heights of popularity and influence in 2012, EDMbiz has been conceived as a key forum for business development in the community,” said Bentley. “The EDM lifestyle touches all corners of pop culture today and it is definitely in the interest of this music scene to create a place for music professionals to get inspired, network, and have fun,” said Bentley.

Bentley, who has hosted KCRW’s signature music show Morning Becomes Eclectic since 2008, ushered the electronic movement into LA with his nighttime radio show Metropolis, coupled with his work as a promoter and a globally respected club DJ himself.

His involvement and dedication to the genre has always extended beyond his role as a DJ, both on air and behind the decks, including an instrumental role in the representation of electronic music at the Grammy Awards.

“I’m not sure that any of the early rave pioneers in America expected career paths to be revealed in the haze of laser lights and disco fog, but staying focused on the history and integrity of the music is paramount at this time. Also, creating forums to discuss the challenges that lie ahead, and asking ourselves the difficult questions, will ultimately help protect the promise of the dance music revolution.”

The conference will touch on topics and issues specific to the scene including:  best practices, social media, technology platforms, festivals, direct-to-fan relationships, licensing, branding, sponsorships, and sustaining community, humanity and credibility during a period of massive growth.

Registration for the event is open now.

KCRW Returns to Pasadena for TWO Free Concerts

Bahamas + Delta Rae

June 9 and June 23

7:30pm

SANTA MONICA, CA, May 10, 2012 Tastemaking public radio station KCRW (89.9FM and KCRW.com) is bringing two of our favorite new bands — Bahamas and Delta Rae — to the One Colorado Courtyard in Old Pasadena to kick off a season of summer concerts. The shows, on Saturday, June 9 and Saturday, June 23, are free and open to the public.

Bahamas is the musical pseudonym of Toronto-based songwriter Afie Jurvanen, who first gained attention as Feist’s touring guitarist. His songs are a laid-back excursion into tropical pop that have earned him both a devoted fan base and a significant amount of critical acclaim. Simple, sublime, and sweetly melancholic, his music will make for a perfect Saturday evening in this outdoor setting on June 9.

From the deep woods of North Carolina, 6-piece buzz band Delta Rae will deliver a powerhouse set of music. Founded by three siblings, the band’s fusion of gospel, country, folk and rock is built around mesmerizing four-part harmonies that made them an instant KCRW favorite.  We’ll hear songs from their forthcoming album “Carry the Fire”, on June 23, just days after the album’s release.

Both shows begin at 7:30pm in the One Colorado Courtyard, amidst 17 historic buildings with numerous bars and restaurants nearby. One Colorado spans one city block in Old Pasadena, between Colorado Boulevard, Union, Delacey and Fair Oaks.

Stay tuned for more info.
