KCRW Brings EDM to NPR, Heads to NYC for Launch Event With Cut Copy

KCRW AND NPR MUSIC PARTNER TO BRING
DANCE MUSIC SHOW
‘METROPOLIS’
TO A NATIONAL AUDIENCE

NYC LAUNCH EVENT ON NOVEMBER 19 with
CUT COPY
+ DJ SET FROM ‘METROPOLIS’ HOST JASON BENTLEY

FREE TIX AVAILABLE WEDNESDAY; WILL STREAM LIVE AT NPR.ORG/MUSIC

(SANTA MONICA) November 12, 2013NPR Music has partnered with LA public radio station KCRW to bring their signature dance music show Metropolis to npr.org/music, with weekly episodes available at the site beginning today.

Metropolis host and KCRW Music Director Jason Bentley will also further expand NPR Music’s electronic music offerings through special features such as exclusive interviews and DJ mixes. Listen to the first episode now.

Giving the collaboration a proper kickoff, NPR Music and KCRW will present a free concert headlined by Australian Grammy-nominated band Cut Copy – currently touring in support of its latest album Free Your Mind – and also featuring a DJ set from Bentley on Tuesday, November 19 at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City at 10pm (ET).

Fans planning to be in the area can RSVP for tickets starting Wednesday. Follow @nprmusic and @kcrw for details.

The concert will also be live streamed at NPRMusic.org for audiences worldwide.

Metropolis originally helped launch the electronic dance music revolution as a nighttime show in Los Angeles in the early 90’s. Bentley, who also hosts KCRW’s acclaimed Morning Becomes Eclectic, is one of the most respected figures in EDM, both as a DJ and an industry leader, and relaunched the show in February 2013 as a fun, smart, and sexy survey of the best of the genre.

“I’ve been immersed in the electronic dance music movement from its earliest incarnations, it has helped shape and define who I am today,” said Bentley. “Metropolis continues to be an important independent outlet for the genre on KCRW. With so much interest in the pop appeal of EDM today, thoughtful music curation is essential if the culture is to continue to thrive in the mainstream. The partnership with NPR brings a wider audience to Metropolis, and supports the growing stature of the music in popular culture.”

“We’re thrilled that KCRW’s Jason Bentley, one of public radio’s most trusted curators, will be driving NPR Music’s electronic music coverage,” said NPR Music director and executive producer Anya Grundmann. “Metropolis joins NPR Music’s roster of signature programs that span across genres to help people discover new music and appreciate the music they love in new ways.”

Metropolis
regularly offers interviews with some of the biggest, most established names in dance music, like Deadmau5, Paul Oakenfold, Steve Angello of Swedish House Mafia and Fatboy Slim, as well as emerging artists with great promise like Disclosure and Jon Hopkins.

Find Metropolis on Twitter and Facebook.

KCRW to Air Live Arcade Fire Album Preview Performance
Monday, October 28 at 7pm

The band will play highlights from their highly anticipated album “Reflektor” the day before its release at Capitol Studios

(SANTA MONICA) October 28, 2013 — KCRW will air a live performance from Arcade Fire on Monday, October 28 at 7pm from Studio A at Capitol Studios here in Los Angeles, in conjunction with NPR Music.

The band will play songs from their highly anticipated new album, “Reflektor” the day before its release at the legendary music landmark, in addition to some old favorites. KCRW is one of a handful of NPR affiliates that has been selected to air this exclusive, hour-long broadcast.

Raul Campos will host this special programming, which will preempt Which Way, LA?, and Music Director Jason Bentley will be reporting live from the scene.

KCRW’s history with Arcade Fire started long before they were Grammy winners. In fact, the band performed live on Morning Becomes Eclectic in 2005 during their first trip to Los Angeles when they were in town to play the Troubadour.
This special programming is part of NPR Music’s “First Listen Live” series.
