About Good Food Pie Contest:

Now in its fourth year, the Good Food Pie Contest started in 2009 when KCRW Good Food Host and Chef Evan Kleiman set out to make pie. As a chef and restaurant owner for over 25 years, Evan finally realized it was time to take on the delicious dessert. That summer, Evan made a pie a day and blogged about it on KCRW’s Good Food Blog. Her passion set off a pie fervor across LA and the Good Food Pie Contest was born. Good Food has since become a platform for all things pie – Evan has interviewed pie experts from across the country on-air and continues to chronicle her pie adventures on the Good Food Blog.

KCRW Returns as Official Radio Sponsor for the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC)

KCRW DJ Raul Campos will serve as the official LAMC host for his 5th year for major events at
Central Park SummerStage and Celebrate Brooklyn At Prospect Park

LAMC runs from July 11 – 14 in New York City.

KCRW (89.9FM and KCRW.com) returns as the official presenting radio sponsor for the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC), with DJ Raul Campos taking the reins as host of the festivities for the 5th year in a row.

“KCRW has been a constant and, at times, singular voice for many of the bands that are featured at the LAMC,” said LAMC founder Tomas Cookman.  “We feel that there is no better radio outlet in the country to partner up with that understands the many different sounds and genres that fall under the LAMC and Latin Alternative umbrella as does KCRW.”

LAMC features up and coming Latin artists such as LA’s own La Santa Cecilia as well as established icons like Kinky. The annual conference, held in New York July 11 – 14, features concerts all over the city – including Central Park SummerStage and Celebrate Brooklyn at Prospect Park – as well as an array of panels.

“There is nothing else like LAMC, where the Latin world converges on NYC for 4 days of great music. It’s opened up my ears to so many new artists and gives us a chance to experience favorites that rarely venture to the U.S.,” said Ariana Morgenstern, producer of KCRW’s signature music show Morning Becomes Eclectic.

In addition to his hosting duties Campos, whose show airs weeknights from 10pm to midnight PST on KCRW, will be included on a panel entitled “Finding Your Audience in the Ever-Changing Radio Landscape”, which will discuss how public radio, satellite and other specialty programs are providing new opportunities for Latin artists.

The panel is on Thursday, July 12 at 2pm.

Check out the  2012 LAMC line-up playlist on Spotify to hear music from all the bands performing this year. Registration is currently discounted at only $199 until July 1st.

Raul Campos, LAMC HOST and KCRW DJ

“Since it’s inception, LAMC has been about taking an underground and alternative sound and exposing it to the masses. The symbiotic relationship that exists between LAMC and KCRW is magical. We’re on the same mission and it’s very gratifying to know how we’ve championed this sound and helped a lot of these acts become household names.” DJ Raul Campos

Bands Added to KCRW’s Made in L.A. Music Series at the Hammer

Allah-Las and Chicano Batman

Added to KCRW’s Made in L.A. Music Series

at the Hammer Museum

SANTA MONICA, CA, June 12, 2012 The talented music tastemakers from Los Angeles public radio KCRW (89.9FM and KCRW.com) will take up residence in the Hammer Museum’s outdoor courtyard this summer in celebration of Made in L.A. 2012 and shine a spotlight on the wide array of music created in our city. The free events take place on Thursdays from June 28 to August 9 and begin at 7pm, with the museum staying open late night.

Two special evenings will feature live performances from up and coming local artists the Allah-Las and Chicano Batman.

On July 12, KCRW DJ Anne Litt will play some tunes and host the Allah-Las who channel a distinctively California sound, as they call it “the perfect mixture of the sands, the seas, the streets and cities of the golden state”.

“On my first listen to the Allah-Las, I loved them immediately. With a ‘60s West Coast dance groove, they are a perfect fit for this series and one of my early picks for LA breakout band of the year. Picture the gorgeous Hammer courtyard on a warm summer night, art, cocktails and the perfect sounds. I can’t wait!” said Litt.

On August 9, KCRW DJ Anthony Valadez will spin a set of music and host East LA’s Chicano Batman. The quartet’s globetrotting sound includes soul, 70’s Brazilian Bossa Nova, spacey psychedelia and surf rock cumbia. The LA Times says they “nail the essence of summer music” and it will be the perfect match for this outdoor setting.

Both bands will begin at 9pm. View the full Made in L.A. Music lineup below and here.

For these events, which are free and open to the public, KCRW DJs will select sets inspired by the idea of the “Made in L.A.”, an exhibit featuring emerging and under-recognized LA artists. The shows all begin at 7pm and the museum will be open late.

There will be a cash bar as well.

Generous support for Made in L.A. Music is provided by The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, AquaHydrate, and IKEA Burbank.
