Summer Nights is Back!

The 6th Season of KCRW’s Free Concert Series
Begins on June 6 in Old Pasadena

The public radio station’s signature outdoor event series brings dozens of shows to all ages audiences across the city each year.

View details here
kcrw.com/summernights

KCRW’s free, all ages, outdoor music series Summer Nights returns June 6 with a performance by LA-based duo De Lux and a DJ set from Dan Wilcox in the courtyard amidst the historic buildings of One Colorado in Old Pasadena.

They created a feel-good sound that is all their own for their debut, and we’ll get a preview of songs from their forthcoming sophomore release, “Generation” (June 23). Earning comparisons to the Talking Heads, De Lux’s synth-driven combination of disco, post-punk and funk is sure to delight a wide range of music fans.

On Saturday, June 20, Cayucas brings their sun-drenched jangly pop sound to the stage, taking us on a tour of “Dancing at the Blue Lagoon”, their new album out on June 23. Marion Hodges opens the show with a DJ set.

Both shows begin at 7:30pm.

Next up, we head to Chinatown to kick off a series of three dance parties, with KCRW DJs taking over the turntables and leading the packed masses as confetti rains down on the dancefloor. Celebrate one of LA’s oldest and most unique neighborhoods on Saturdays throughout the summer months: June 27, July 25 and August 22.

Our collaboration with cultural partners across the city continues with Summer of Soul at the Hammer Museum on Thursdays throughout July. Happy Hour starts at 6:30pm in their open air courtyard, featuring the timeless power of soul music starting at 7:30pm courtesy of KCRW DJs and performances by some of their favorite artists. Check out all their exhibitions, including Mark Bradford: Scorched Earth, which inspired this year’s musical theme. Galleries stay open late for art-viewing.

KCRW will also team up with the Annenberg Space for Photography to bring four blockbuster concerts featuring some of KCRW’s favorite artists to Century Park in Century City.

Last but not least – and closest to our home base – KCRW will present the Twilight Concert Series at the iconic Santa Monica Pier for free concerts every Thursday, July 9 through September 10.

The station’s signature series has reached hundreds of thousands of music fans over the years and gives KCRW DJs a chance to bring their eclectic musical tastes out of our basement studios and into the community.

More talents announcements coming soon. Find additional details online here.

Los Angeles, CA (April 15, 2015) The day before Alabama Shakes release “Sound & Color“, Los Angeles public radio station KCRW will present a live webcast of the band playing songs from the new album, as well as favorites from their Grammy-nominated debut, “Boys and Girls”.

The album release party will take place at Apogee Studio — the private studio of famed producer/engineer Bob Clearmountain – on Monday, April 20.

Alabama Shakes
experienced a meteoric rise following the release of their 2012 debut and took their time crafting their sophomore album, expanding on their soulful blues-rock sound.

KCRW’s SXSW 2015 Lineup Announced!

KCRW Showcases at SXSW
Wednesday, March 18

2-5pm – Convention Center (Radio Day Stage)

JAMES BAY

8pm-2am – The Parish

ODESZA * DELTA SPIRIT * BIG DATA *

HIATUS KAIYOTE * BØRNS * WOLF ALICE

Los Angeles, CA (February 06, 2015) Los Angeles-based public radio station KCRW is kicking off SXSW 2015 on Wednesday, March 18, with TWO official showcases open to anyone with a festival badge or wristband (no RSVP needed).

We’re thrilled to bring an eclectic lineup to The Parish on Wednesday night from 8pm to 2am.

Seattle duo ODESZA were a big hit across KCRW’s airwaves with their album “In Return” and they can claim the title of one of the most booked bands on the summer festival circuit this year!

Delta Spirit
are also road warriors and never cease to amaze with their live shows, which is why we asked them to join our lineup immediately after their most recent performance on Morning Becomes Eclectic

KCRW had Big Data’s breakout single “Dangerous” on regular rotation far before others caught on and we’re looking forward to what Alan Wilkis has ahead on his new album “2.0”, which will feature guest turns from Twin Shadow, White Sea, and many others.

BØRNS is clearly on track to be one of LA’s breakout artists this year, armed with his “Candy” EP of undeniably catchy pop songs and tons of charisma on stage. BØRNS’ debut full length will be released later this year.

Two very different female-fronted bands will take the stage– Grammy-nominated future soul band Hiatus Kaiyote, who will debut new material from their upcoming sophomore album “Choose Your Weapon”, and the raw rock of UK’s Wolf Alice, who are on tour with Alt-J and primed to release their debut later this year.

They made their U.S. radio debut on KCRW and were previously listed among the BBC’s short list for breakout artists in 2015, as was singer-songwriter James Bay who joins our Day Showcase at the Convention Center!

KCRW takes over the Radio Day Stage, which has some of the best sound in the city, from 2-5pm.

James, whose new album is out on March 24, kicks off the festivities with his captivating songs and beautiful voice at 2pm, followed by another UK favorite, Laura Marling.

She made a splash with her debut album when she was just 18 years old and has proven to be one of the best songwriters of her generation. The British folk singer moves boldly forward on her latest release “Short Movie”.

German duo Milky Chance have one of the biggest singles in modern rock with the undeniably catchy “Stolen Dance”. They’ve found a unique musical spot merging folk songwriting and reggae vibes with electronic beats on their debut “Sadnecessary”.

Find us on the 4th Floor – what better way to start your week of music watching?

KCRW
will also be broadcasting Morning Becomes Eclectic live from Austin. More details to come!

See the schedule above and read more on the artists below.

Who are those creatures roaming the streets of Park City? Giant abominable snowmen?

Rest assured, they are the one and only PPL MVR (pronounced People Mover).

With a debut due on Elektra Records, they play the kind of fist-in-the-air heavy rock you would expect from such mysterious creatures and you will not want to miss it.

The two Texas natives behind Jamestown Revival put a SoCal spin on their grassroots rock. They’ll bring their harmony driven melodies to Sundance before playing Coachella later this year.

Penguin Prison
channels the spirit of 80’s pop geniuses like Hall and Oates and Prince into modern tracks that are completely irresistible.
