Santa Monica, CA (May 19, 2021) – KCRW Music and Good Food announce details of Part Two of Sound Bites, the virtual event that pairs luminaries from the fields of music and food.
The second Sound Bites features Good Food’s Evan Kleiman and KCRW Program Director of Music Anne Litt in conversation with the dynamic uncle/nephew duo: award-winning vegan chef, author, and activist Bryant Terry and Grammy-nominated Memphis soul music veteran Don Bryant on Thursday, May 27, at 7:00 PM PDT via Zoom. The event is free with registration.
Both Don and Bryant love good storytelling. In 1974, Don moved from the mic to the pen, hitting the top of the charts with his song, “I Can’t Stand the Rain,” sung by his wife, Ann Peebles. He has now come back to recording music, at the age of 79, earning himself a Grammy© nomination in 2020 for his outstanding blues album You Make Me Feel. Meanwhile, his James Beard Award-Winning nephew, Bryant, who authored the critically-acclaimed cookbooks Afro-Vegan and Vegetable Kingdom, is also the resident Chef at the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco where he creates public programming at the intersection of food, farming, health, activism, art, culture, and the African Diaspora.
Sound Bites is a series of three, free, virtual events about the intertwined worlds of food and music. The series explores important questions with luminaries from these ever-evolving sectors. After a year of missing restaurant culture and live performances, where are we now? What does the future hold for two of our favorite things in life? The first episode in the series featured chef Roy Choi and John Gourley from Portugal. The Man, and can be viewed here.
