Playing New Songs from “Sound & Color”
Monday, April 20

Streaming Worldwide via KCRW and NPR Music’s First Listen Live Series

Los Angeles, CA (April 15, 2015) The day before Alabama Shakes release “Sound & Color“, Los Angeles public radio station KCRW will present a live webcast of the band playing songs from the new album, as well as favorites from their Grammy-nominated debut, “Boys and Girls”.

The album release party will take place at Apogee Studio — the private studio of famed producer/engineer Bob Clearmountain – on Monday, April 20.

The entire performance will stream live via KCRW.com and as part of NPR Music’s First Listen Live series (at NPR.org/Music) starting at 7pm PT / 10pm ET.

The show will be hosted by KCRW Music Director Jason Bentley and recorded for future broadcast on Morning Becomes Eclectic on Friday, April 27.

This is KCRW’s first live webcast of their popular Apogee Sessions series, which has featured everyone from Nick Cave and Beck to James Blake and Vampire Weekend over the last five years.

Alabama Shakes
experienced a meteoric rise following the release of their 2012 debut and took their time crafting their sophomore album, expanding on their soulful blues-rock sound.

The new set of genre-bending songs are refreshingly complex and prompted some new additions to the core quartet, including touring keyboard player Ben Tanner and Paul Horton, a friend from their hometown in Alabama on keys and percussion, as well as three back up singers.

Both NPR Music (First Listen) and KCRW (Album Preview) will host the full album stream of Alabama Shakes “Sound & Color” starting on the evening of April 12.

Los Angeles, CA (February 06, 2015) Los Angeles-based public radio station KCRW is kicking off SXSW 2015 on Wednesday, March 18, with TWO official showcases open to anyone with a festival badge or wristband (no RSVP needed).

We’re thrilled to bring an eclectic lineup to The Parish on Wednesday night from 8pm to 2am.

Seattle duo ODESZA were a big hit across KCRW’s airwaves with their album “In Return” and they can claim the title of one of the most booked bands on the summer festival circuit this year!

Delta Spirit
are also road warriors and never cease to amaze with their live shows, which is why we asked them to join our lineup immediately after their most recent performance on Morning Becomes Eclectic

KCRW had Big Data’s breakout single “Dangerous” on regular rotation far before others caught on and we’re looking forward to what Alan Wilkis has ahead on his new album “2.0”, which will feature guest turns from Twin Shadow, White Sea, and many others.

BØRNS is clearly on track to be one of LA’s breakout artists this year, armed with his “Candy” EP of undeniably catchy pop songs and tons of charisma on stage. BØRNS’ debut full length will be released later this year.

Two very different female-fronted bands will take the stage– Grammy-nominated future soul band Hiatus Kaiyote, who will debut new material from their upcoming sophomore album “Choose Your Weapon”, and the raw rock of UK’s Wolf Alice, who are on tour with Alt-J and primed to release their debut later this year.

They made their U.S. radio debut on KCRW and were previously listed among the BBC’s short list for breakout artists in 2015, as was singer-songwriter James Bay who joins our Day Showcase at the Convention Center!

KCRW takes over the Radio Day Stage, which has some of the best sound in the city, from 2-5pm.

James, whose new album is out on March 24, kicks off the festivities with his captivating songs and beautiful voice at 2pm, followed by another UK favorite, Laura Marling.

She made a splash with her debut album when she was just 18 years old and has proven to be one of the best songwriters of her generation. The British folk singer moves boldly forward on her latest release “Short Movie”.

German duo Milky Chance have one of the biggest singles in modern rock with the undeniably catchy “Stolen Dance”. They’ve found a unique musical spot merging folk songwriting and reggae vibes with electronic beats on their debut “Sadnecessary”.

KCRW
will also be broadcasting Morning Becomes Eclectic live from Austin. More details to come!

The early evening sets — from 3 pm to 5 pm on January 24, 25 and 26 – will include a varied collection of KCRW favorites. The location is at the corner of Heber Ave and Main, at 201 Heber Avenue at the Acura Studio.

See the schedule above and read more on the artists below.

Who are those creatures roaming the streets of Park City? Giant abominable snowmen?

Rest assured, they are the one and only PPL MVR (pronounced People Mover).

With a debut due on Elektra Records, they play the kind of fist-in-the-air heavy rock you would expect from such mysterious creatures and you will not want to miss it.

The two Texas natives behind Jamestown Revival put a SoCal spin on their grassroots rock. They’ll bring their harmony driven melodies to Sundance before playing Coachella later this year.

Penguin Prison
channels the spirit of 80’s pop geniuses like Hall and Oates and Prince into modern tracks that are completely irresistible.

Tunde Adebimpe is a founding member of indie rock favorites TV on the Radio, who released the exceptional album “Seeds” at the end of 2014. He comes to Sundance as the star of the film  “Nasty Baby”, alongside Kristen Wiig and will spin a Guest DJ set for us.

Rob Garza is one half of the dub-influenced electronic duo Thievery Corporation, who continue to sell out major venues across the world 20 years into their career.

Throughout KCRW’s time in Park City, hosts Jason Bentley and Anne Litt will also be conducting interviews at the Acura Studio for future broadcast on the station’s signature music show Morning Becomes Eclectic.

Jason, who is also booked to play Coachella this year, will get on the decks for a DJ set as well.

Keep an eye on all the action, including contributions from the curator of KCRW’s film series First Take, Matt Holzman, as well as producers behind The Business, The Treatment and more, on our Sundance page.

KCRW’s presence at the Festival began two years ago, when the esteemed entertainment powerhouse was chosen as the first-ever radio station to join forces with the independent film festival in programming evening music performances.

2015 marks Acura’s fifth year as a Presenting Sponsor of the Sundance Film Festival and as the Official Vehicle of the Festival.

KCRW in NYC: Mikky Ekko and Flight Facilities on Oct 1 at Sonos Studio

KCRW at Sonos Studio NYC

The LA public radio station will host an evening with Mikky Ekko and Flight Facilities on October 1

LOS ANGELES, CA (September 23, 2014) Public radio station KCRW has partnered with Sonos on a series of live events in Los Angeles and will host an event featuring Nashville singer-songwriter Mikky Ekko and the Aussie production duo Flight Facilities as part of a week-long series of programs at Sonos Studio NYC.

It will take place on Wednesday, October 1 at NeueHouse in the Flatiron District.

There are limited press tickets available (please reply to this email), however it is not open to the public.

The show will be hosted by KCRW Music Director Jason Bentley and recorded for future broadcast on Morning Becomes Eclectic and his Saturday night dance showcase Metropolis.

Soulful pop singer Mikky Ekko seems destined for stardom. He first hit the charts when he sang on Rihanna’s 2013 track “Stay” and is forging his own path as a solo artist with his new single “Smile”.

KCRW has been a longtime supporter of Flight Facilities and recently premiered the new single from the band’s highly-anticipated forthcoming full length. They also performed on the station’s SXSW showcase in 2013.

KCRW
last visited the East Coast to host a sold-out show with Cut Copy, in collaboration with NPR Music, celebrating the relaunch of Metropolis.

In Los Angeles, KCRW has hosted performances from everyone from Little Dragon to Pretty Lights at Sonos Studio.  Recent sessions with Jose James and Banks will be airing on Morning Becomes Eclectic on October 3 and October 13, respectively.

Sonos Studio is an acoustically designed gallery that explores the intersection of music, art and technology. During their weeklong stint in NYC (September 30-October 5), they will also feature sound installations, creative workshops, film screenings, engaging discussions, and listening parties.

KCRW Announces First ALL MUSIC Broadcast Station

KCRW Announces First ALL MUSIC Broadcast Station

Starting today, KCRW’s all-music stream Eclectic24 will broadcast on 106.9FM in Santa Barbara

Total listener hours for Eclectic24 have quadrupled since it launched five years ago.

LOS ANGELES, CA (September 15, 2014) Starting today, KCRW’s famed music programming will take center stage in Santa Barbara on 106.9FM, which will air the LA public radio station’s 24-hour music stream, Eclectic24.

This is the station’s first all music terrestrial broadcast.

Launched almost exactly five years ago, KCRW’s online music destination, Eclectic24, has been a huge success, with total listener hours quadrupling in that time.

The popularity of the stream extends worldwide, with steady online listenership in Canada, UK, France, Germany, Mexico, Australia and more. Expanding the stream to a larger audience in the station’s own backyard was a natural evolution.

Curated by former Music Director and current DJ Chris Douridas, Eclectic24 shares an eclectic menu of artists drawn from the playlists of the station’s talented stable of deejays – as well as exclusive live performances recorded in our studio – 24 hours a day. You can view real-time playlists here.

Eclectic24 presents the best music on the planet – from all styles, past and present, including rare demos, unsigned artists, and exclusive live on air performances,” said Douridas.

“It has grown steadily and swiftly and its expansion onto the airwaves in Southern California satisfies a real demand for unique programming with a personal touch, all day, every day.”

KCRW’s on-air offerings can now be heard on a new frequency in Santa Barbara, 88.7FM, with local news programming.

Eclectic24 can be found online here and is also available to HD Radio users.
To best satisfy the growing demand for KCRW’s music programming, the station has actively pursued expansion on multiple platforms and with numerous partners, including a notable presence on services like Spotify and YouTube, as well as app development for mobile and much more.

The station continues to explore every opportunity to reach our fans and new listeners worldwide.
