(SANTA MONICA) August 20, 2013 –For the fifth year of KCRW’s annual Halloween fundraiser Masquerade, the public radio station will introduce new themed rooms at the legendary Park Plaza, as well as a myriad of sights, sounds and spectacles to delight all the senses.

The event will take place on Saturday, October 26 and pre-sale tickets are on sale now at KCRW.com with discounts for both members ($75) and non-members ($85).

Non-members who purchase tickets to Masquerade during the pre-sale will receive Membership benefits for one-year, including a Fringe Benefits card and eligibility to win ticket giveaways.

Only a limited number of tickets will be available at pre-sale prices and the event sells out every year.

From circus troops and costume contests to food trucks and ghost stories, the evening goes far beyond a traditional dance party.

Music in the five themed rooms will be provided by KCRW’s own skilled selectors and other high-profile DJs and live bands to be announced next month.

The event is 21 and over and all tickets are general admission.

Proceeds for the event support KCRW’s programming.

KCRW Announces Second Round of Judges for Good Food Pie Contest

Jonathan Gold, Susan Feniger to Join KCRW Good Food Pie Contest Judging Panel

NEW Vegan and Kids Categories Added to 2013 Competition

(SANTA MONICA) August 20, 2013 — The second round of judges for KCRW’s 5th Annual Good Food Pie Contest, includes Los Angeles Times Restaurant Critic Jonathan Gold and Susan Feniger, owner and chef of STREET and Border Grill. The all-star lineup of foodies, pâtissieres, restaurant owners and celebrities, also welcomes Garrett Snyder, Hourie Sahakian, Amy Rowat, Robert Wemischner, Meadow Ramsey, Tal Ronen, Lindsay William Ross, Christine Moore, Elina Shatkin, Gustavo Arellano, Hot Knives, and Nicole Mournian to the judging panel.

 The free, all-ages event returns to LACMA on Saturday, September 7. The contest includes two new categories, “Kids” and “Vegan” in addition to Fruit, Nut, Cream/Chiffon/Silk, Savory, Vegan, and “LACMA Art-Inspired” influenced by artwork in the museum’s collection. Good Food host Evan Kleiman will preside over the afternoon’s pie festivities which include a free pie tasting and an afternoon soundtrack provided by KCRW DJ Anne Litt. Attendees wearing an apron will also receive free admission to LACMA that afternoon only.

Submissions for the pie contest close Sunday, September 1 at 11:55pm PST.

The Good Food Pie Contest is the culmination of KCRW’s annual summer pie celebration. The Pie-A-Day series features a new, daily pie recipe on the Good Food Blog from the 4th of July through Labor Day. The blog will also include pie announcements, baking tips, pie pictures and more. Fans, bakers and listeners can also submit pie photos using the hashtag #PieADay.

MOBY TO JUDGE KCRW’S 5TH ANNUAL GOOD FOOD PIE CONTEST

KCRW Announces First Round of Guest Judges, a Baking Benefit with Sherry Yard, and the #PieBeer Naming Competition Winner

(SANTA MONICA) July 31, 2013 — KCRW welcomes award-winning musician, Moby to be the official judge of the “Vegan” category at the 5th Annual Good Food Pie Contest. Moby, well known for his active stance in the vegan community, joins a star-studded cast of bakers, chefs, restaurateurs, and critics, who will each judge one-of-seven categories at this year’s competition. The first round of judges includes: Russ Parsons, Roxana Jullapat, Karen Hatfield, Valerie Gordon, Zoe Nathan, Shannon Swindle, David LeFevre and Kris Morningstar.

To help raise money for the contest, renowned baker Sherry Yard will join forces with KCRW Good Food host Evan Kleiman as they share their perfect pie secrets. The special pie fundraiser, hosted by the New School of Cooking, includes demonstrations with both bakers, a pie tasting, a recipe packet, and an essential pie tool for attendees. Kleiman will create a Chicken Pot Pie, while Yard sweetens the deal with a Plum & Blackberry Pie with Toasted Almost Crumble and her Quintessential Apple Pie. Tickets are $85 and all proceeds will be donated to KCRW’s 5th Annual Good Food Pie Contest.

Orange County craft brewers, The Bruery, helped kick off this year’s pie festivities with a special Pie Beer naming competition. Over 200 entries were submitted in four days to name the sour beer inspired by a rhubarb raspberry pie with a graham cracker crust. Evan Kleiman and The Bruery chose the winning name, Windowsill, which was submitted by food and beer bloggers, Hot Knives. The special brew will be available for limited release at the beginning of September through The Bruery’s Reserve Society and at KCRW’s Good Food Pie Contest.

KCRW celebrates all things pie every summer, with their Pie-A-Day series which features a new pie recipe on the Good Food Blog daily through Labor Day. The site will also include pie announcements, baking tips, pie pictures and more. Fans can also submit their own pie photos which will be aggregated on the blog using the hashtag #PieADay.

KCRW’s Free Concert Series Continues Into September

 The public radio station partners with a wide variety of cultural institutions across Southern California for free, outdoors, all-ages events.

(SANTA MONICA) August 13, 2013 — The season of free, all ages, outdoors summer shows is almost over, but KCRW’s Summer Nights series is going out with a bang.

This Saturday, the station returns to Chinatown for a dance party courtesy of KCRW DJs Raul Campos and Mario Cotto. It’s our third and final night in Chinatown’s Central Plaza and so far each one has been packed with revelers (and lots of confetti).

The public radio station will also present the season closer in the Skirball Cultural Center’s Sunset Concerts series, a courtyard performance from Afro-Brazilian specialist Dendê and Band on Thursday, August 29 at 7pm, with an opening DJ set from KCRW’s Jeremy Sole.

KCRW will host two additional shows by world music masters on Saturday, August 24. Fared Shafinury melds traditional melodies and rhythms from Iran with modern electronic beats at Grand Performances in California Plaza at 8pm, while MacArthur Park hosts an evening with reggae sensation Rocky Dawuni as part of Levitt Pavilion’s popular concert series.

The Twilight Concert Series continues at the Santa Monica Pier on Thursday nights with upcoming performances from The English Beat, Nick Waterhouse, Jimmy Cliff, Trombone Shorty, Gardens & Villa and others.
