Guy Gerber & Puff Daddy – “11 11”

The long-rumored collaboration between the unlikely duo of Guy Gerber and Puff Daddy (as he is apparently now known as again) is finally here and it’s probably not what you’re expecting.

Gerber is an Israeli-born producer is primarily known for his cerebral tech house productions.

And that’s pretty much what you’re getting with “11 11” — it’s a Guy Gerber record with bits of Puffy sprinkled in.

Which, if you’re making a house record, is probably how it should be; if you were making a hip hop record you’d probably want to flip the ratio.

11 11” (named after the date the album was originally slated to be released — November 11, 2011) is an understated record best suited for an after hours vibe.

This week, I’ve been giving some spins to broken “Broken Windows“, which is my favorite track of the album. You can stream it below

Que – Can You Digg It? Mixtape

I occasionally like to use the forum on this blog to shine a light on releases that I’m not currently playing on the air, but get bumped at home and in the car. Que just put out one of those records.

The Atlanta rapper came from seemingly out of nowhere last year with his monster hit “OG Bobby Johnson” and is back this week with an excellent new mixtape called “Can You Digg It?

Uno, Dos, Tres” is the lead track from the mixtape and works for a lot of the same reasons as “OG Bobby Johnson” did, but in my opinion the jam on here is the DJ Mustard-produced “Rich Problems” featuring 2 Chainz, wherein Que raps about the plight of being a member of the 1%.

(WARNING: THE LANGUAGE IS DEFINITELY NSFW)

Que might not be breaking any new ground lyrically on this mixtape, but with Can You Digg It? he has firmly established himself as one of the most exciting new voices in rap music who’s more than just a one-hit flash in the pan.

This is definitely one of my favorite rap mixtapes of 2014.
