Banks – “Brain” and “Goddess” Remixes
I would venture to guess that in the past 12 months I’ve played more music by Banks than any other artist.
This is owed largely to the LA-based songstress’ talents as a singer and songwriter, but credit also goes to the consistent trickle of remixes of her work that always seem to keep things fresh.
In the run up to the September release of the her debut album, “Goddess”, Banks is serving up remixes of the first two tracks from the album — “Brain” and “Goddess“.
Lido’s bassy take on “Goddess” has been getting a lot of play on my show recently.

It’s really testament Banks’ songwriting prowess that the her music works so well in so many different settings. I’m really looking forward to hearing “Goddess“ in its entirety.

YG & Blanco — “Block Party (prod. Cookin Soul)”
The DJs at KCRW are given a lot of latitude to play the music we love; it’s the secret sauce that keeps our music programming so tight.
The one caveat is that we have to comply with FCC regulations, which means no cursing.
This track by YG & Blanco is probably my favorite track of the moment that I can’t play on the air due to The Man.

The funky, laid back beat by Spanish production duo Cookin’ Soul has a distinctly West Coast feel, vaguely reminiscent of one of my all-time favorite tracks by Rappin’ 4-Tay.
It’s the perfect soundtrack to a sunny day cruising around LA in my Civic and imagining it’s a ’64 Cadillac Coupe de Ville 😛
