RIP Adam Yauch. KCRW Pays Tribute to the Late Member of The Beastie Boys

Written by

Adam Yauch, aka MCA, of the Beastie Boys has been battling cancer since a 2009 diagnosis. The basement filled with heartbreak as the sad news of his passing came to us this morning. We grew up with him. It sucks getting old and seeing the icons of our youth meeting their end. The phones rang, a listener even requested a full hour tribute to the Beastie Boys.

Rest assured, KCRW airwaves and this blog will see more and more tribute as DJs prepare for their upcoming shows. We’ve already published pieces by Eric J. Lawrence, Anthony Valadez & Mario Cotto. You can see all of that as it comes in here: http://blogs.kcrw.com/musicnews/category/tribute/

Jason Bentley dedicated a portion of this morning’s MBE broadcast to the breaking news. Have a listen:

When Anne Litt called us with the news, she also mentioned an acoustic song from Hello Nasty, featuring Adam Yauch on vocals. It’s called “I Don’t Know” and it’s just the right amount of somber to match the feeling today. Anne had this to say about it:

I grew up with the Beastie Boys and it’s really hard to say goodbye to Adam Yauch. This song he sings from Hello Nasty, makes perfect sense now. Adam does the vocal with Miho Hatori.

Sending lots of love to his family. RIP MCA.
