Music For Your Weekend

As a wise man once said, “I love it when a plan comes together.” I didn’t immediately sense a theme amongst my track recommendations for you this week, but I now realize that there is a deeply soulful thread running through all of them. Perfect to get you in the mood for Thanksgiving next week!

Ty Segall – “My Lady’s on Fire”

Ty Segall is one of the most talented (and prolific) songwriters working currently. “My Lady’s On Fire” is his latest addition to the incredibly strong canon he’s built up over the years. Come for the incisive lyrics, stay for the gloriously prominent saxophone.

CCFX – “The One to Wait”

I can’t properly describe what this song does to my emotions, but it hits my pleasure center in a way that makes me wish I’d discovered it long before I finally did.

Martha High – “Mama’s Got a Bag of Her Own”

Legendary “Funky Diva” Martha High’s excellent new record is lovingly titled A Tribute to My Soul Sisters. This standout track embodies that spirit by playfully shifting the narrative of one of her former boss James Brown’s most famous songs.
