What’s your favorite road trip?
We asked our community to share their favorite routes for cruising in the summer time. Tune in all week during morning edition to hear some road trips for Mars lovers, bike lovers and anyone interested in James Dean.
We start with Doug Ellison’s route to the Lava Tube at Mojave National Preserve & Kelso Dunes. Meet our roadtrippers and take a look at what you’re in for with this day trip, here!
More than 50 years ago, actor James Dean, who loved racing and fast cars, grabbed the keys to his Porsche 550 Spyder and was on his way to a race in Salinas. Follow his fatal route here.
A roundabout journey from Los Angeles to Solvang in the Santa Ynez Valley. Many people go to Solvang for it’s faux Danish architecture and food, but Susan Capenter’s destination is the town’s vintage motorcycle museum, where the bikes are works of art. Check it out here.
The road that’s closest to novelist Jervey Tervalon’s heart is one that is often associated with sun, light and the California Dream. It’s the 101 stretching from Los Angeles, through Ventura to Santa Barbara. See here.
We trade motors for muscles, with this recommendation. It’s a cycling trip for experienced cyclists. Take the PCH up into the Santa Monica Mountains, where the reward for lots of pedaling and sweating are magnificent views and a great workout, and maybe even some fresh fruit.
