Files point to child sex abuse cover-up at LA Archdiocese

Today’s Los Angeles Times has new evidence of just how far church leaders went to cover up child abuse. The Times got access to memos between now-retired Cardinal Roger Mahony and his second in-command, Monsignor Thomas Curry. Are you smoking smuggled cigarettes?

Cigarette taxes have reached an all time high in some states, causing illegal cigarette smuggling to increase. Conservative think-tank “Mackinac Center for Public Policy” released a study that shows more than one-third of all cigarettes smoked right here in California are smuggled in.

Filmmakers hit $100 million mark on Kickstarter

In the wake of the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, Los Angeles County Unified School District Superintendent John Deasy and Senator Ted Lieu addressed the issue of safety as it pertains to the nearly 700,000 students in the district. Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera dead at 43

On Sunday morning, a plane carrying Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera, 43, crashed south of Monterrey, in a mountainous region of northeastern Mexico. There were no survivors. Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, an authority with Mexico’s transportation and communications, described the scene on Televisa [translated by the Associated Press]: “There is nothing recognizable, neither material nor human in the wreckage,” he said.
