mariahcarey christmasSanta getting you down? Feeling a little suffocated at the shopping mall? Maybe you need a jingle.

The holidays always – and I mean always – include frenzied shopping, snow (even if you live in LA, there’s always snow for Christmas) and music. Lots of Christmas music.

Some radio stations even change their formats for a month or two to take advantage of the season.

And, chances are, you’ll hear a lot of “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey.

But, believe it or not, there haven’t been a whole lot of other Christmas songs that’ve come out since that overly-played tune.

So KCRW’s Steve Chiotakis solicited the expert advice of KCRW’s own music librarian and DJ Eric J. Lawrence to talk to us about why there’s been such a yule tide dry spell in the music world.
