Obama arriving in L.A. for a triple-dose of fundraising

President Barack Obama is due to arrive in L.A. today as part of a whirlwind West Coast fundraising spree. He’ll press the flesh at three fundraising events here, as well as paying a visit to DreamWorks Animation in Glendale. Air Force One is expected to touch down at LAX sometime around 4 p.m. That will kick-off 24 hours of traffic disruptions impacting neighborhoods from Westchester and Westwood to Beverly Hills and Glendale. It’s Obama’s 16th trip to L.A. since taking office…Frank Gehry’s new plan for remaking Grand Avenue will be presented to L.A. planners today. The proposed $650 million development includes a pair of residential and hotel towers and a U-shaped retail plaza directly across from Walt Disney Concert Hall. Gehry was the original architect on a plan that was submitted seven years ago. That plan stalled, in part because of the faltering economy…An urban L.A. oil field that neighbors blame for health problems has voluntarily agreed to shut down until investigations are completed. University Park residents have complained for years that vapors from the Allenco facility are responsible for headaches, nosebleeds and other ailments. In the 1970s, Coleman won a Daytime Emmy Award for her work on “Days of Our Lives.” She was 67…And finally, Malibu High School will stay open in spite of toxins on campus that exceed federal limits. Preliminary testing revealed that caulking around window sills contains elevated levels of PCBs. School officials say there is no immediate health risk and that the campus will remain open while they work with the EPA to clean up the chemicals.
