NPR’s Mike Pesca on Noah Baumbach’s latest film, ‘Frances Ha’

Mike went out and saw a movie this afternoon for us – so the review is fresh! The movie is “Frances Ha,” directed by Noah Baumbach and starring Greta Gerwig. This is the story of a young woman’s quest to find an apartment in New York.

Pesca found lots of similarities between “Frances Ha” and the HBO hit series “Girls” – both focus on hip, 20-something New Yorkers trying to find their way in life with little money and a lot of uncertainty.

The film is shot in black-and-white, with lots of references to French New Wave filmmaking. It’s no accident that Baumbach’s son is named “Rohmer” after the French auteur, Eric Rohmer. Hear Mike’s thoughts here:
