ObamaSecondTerm

Next Monday, President Barack Obama will raise his right hand and take the oath of office for a second term in office. He’ll have another four years to accomplish his national policy agenda. But what exactly should that agenda be? What issues and problems must President Obama focus on? And how much work is left undone from his first term in office?

We’re asking a variety of smart Southern Californians for their opinions and to tell us one goal they believe the President must accomplish in the four years to come.

We start the series with veteran journalist Pilar Marrero talking about what she believes is the need for national immigration reform. Marrero is a political reporter for IMPREMedia and the author of the new book, “Killing the American Dream: How Anti-Immigration Extremists are Destroying the Nation.”

A lot of people think that people come illegally because they want to come illegally. I hear this all the time: “Why won’t they go through the steps to become a citizen or come legally?” Well, the reason is there is no real avenue to come legally beyond a very specific type of immigration that actually does not serve the economy of this country very well.
