The City of Compton was long a black enclave, but now it’s 65 percent Latino. Recently, a black family was driven from its new home by Latino gang members. That could be part of an ugly pattern happening where populations are changing. But veterans of violent gang culture say it’s a shadow of what it was five or 10 years ago. Earlier this week, we reported that a black family with no gang connections was driven out of its new home in Compton. Two members of a Latino gang have been arrested, and sheriff’s deputies are looking for more suspects. The incident was especially shocking to some people, because Compton historically was a black city. Now it’s 65 percent Latino.
