Silicon Beach: A hub of inspiration

I launched Giant Media from my Brentwood apartment in November of 2009. We’ve come a long way since that time and have moved offices twice since then, but rather than relocate to San Francisco (or for that matter, New York), we’ve chosen to stay in the quickly emerging “Silicon Beach”. We operate out of a gorgeous office on Electric Avenue, just off of world famous Abbot Kinney in Venice, California. The space is creative and spacious — even more so because we feel connected to a great community and environment for a startup.

Just down the street, I have friends I can call on for ideas at companies, like Movieclips.com, Viddy, Google, and others. We host a “First Friday” party every month that attracts hundreds of people from the startup and advertising community. Another indicator of the growth of this community are the various incubators and accelerators popping up around town, which house, mentor and fund early stage startups. The entrepreneurial spirit can’t be ignored and the inspiration is totally infectious. This is all great for our stage as a company – because we’re growing fast and always on the look out for top talent.

Just as cool, we’re starting to see an increase in investment money pour into the area, so it’s a pretty safe bet that this growth is still going strong.  We feel lucky to have launched a company in what I think will eventually be the center of digital technology innovation in the United States.
