Art Talk: A rare view of Alexander Calder, on display in Venice

You don’t have to be an art lover to appreciate Alexander Calder.  His large scale sculptures and mobiles are playful and poetic–and iconic.  In downtown Los Angeles, his Four Arches (left) is permanently displayed outside the Bank of America building.  Other works can be seen at the sculpture garden in UCLA, LACMA, and even Neiman-Marcus.

Now, a rare show of Calder pieces is up at the L & M Gallery in Venice.  Our Hunter Drohojowska-Philp calls it a mini-retrospective.  She had the rare chance to sit down and talk with the steward of Alexander Calder’s legacy, his grandson, Alexander Rower, who came to town to supervise the installation.
