UPDATE: The Los Angeles Times reports today that a scholarship fund started by the filmmaker has grown to more than $170,000 and the Goldhirsh Foundation is matching funds:

“The video got 4.6 million views on Vimeo and YouTube, and a scholarship fund that Mullick set up for Caine has now grown to more than $170,000, mostly donations from people who saw the film online. And now the Goldhirsh Foundation has pledged to match donations up to $250,000 to build the Caine’s Arcade Foundation to foster creativity and entrepreneurship in youngsters.”

Gawker posted the story behind a 9-year-old boy named Caine Monroy, his homemade arcade, and the flashmob that showed up to play all the games, fashioned out of cardboard boxes. Monroy’s father told the filmmaker, “if you can get him one customer, that’ll make him happy.” And, indeed, Caine was happy. Here’s more from the filmmakers. Watch the video, it’s pretty sweet:
