  • Inland Empire  Hesperia DUI Checkpoint on Main and E Avenue

UPDATE For Sunday 9/2/12 4:25pm

There has been a trend for the last few 3 – day weekends for local authorities to focus more on saturation patrols  rather than checkpoints as the weekend winds down. That being said, we are in the final 24 hours of a two week  MAXIMUM ENFORCEMENT    “avoid the 100 campaign” crackdown.
Most of my sources are getting word that  it will still be considered a top priority by LAPD, CHP, LASD and other cities that that have their own police department e.g. Santa Monica, Burbank, Culver City, etc.

Mr. Checkpoint, Total Traffic and local newspapers are all reporting…well, not much.

If you come across any checkpoints feel free to comment here or tweet me @Kajonkcrw. Please RETWEET RESPONSIBLY

Never Drink and Drive! This is my car….

Three and a half weeks ago I was hit by a DUI going about 70mph.
In a word – horrifying. I feel stronger than ever about posting checkpoint locations as authorities report that there is a 20% reduction in collisions, including fatalities, as a direct result of well publicized DUI checkpoints. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) also supports and encourages making the locations of DUI checkpoints publicized.*

Her Car

Please consider being a Road Angel, and whatever you do, Don’t Drink and Drive! Not only was I extremely lucky, so was the girl that hit me. Only by circumstance is she saved from the nightmare of having to live for the rest of her life with the consequences of killing someone – me.

CHP and local authorities are on maximum enforcement until Monday night.

Check back, I will update throughout the weekend.

*People frequently ask me, “Kajon WTF? Why do you post the locations of DUI checkpoints?”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that when well-publicized sobriety checkpoints were conducted, alcohol-related crashes and fatalities decreased by more than 20 percent.
“Sobriety checkpoints are one of the most critical tools available for law enforcement to deter drunk driving,” said Mary Klotzbach, public policy liaison for MADD California.
Klotzbach states, “Sobriety checkpoints send a message that if a motorist chooses to drive drunk, he or she will get caught.”
A 20% decrease in crashes and fatalities is a number too high to ignore and my goal is help, not hurt. Here is the link to a post where this very question has been explored extensively. http://blogs.kcrw.com/shortcuts/should-dui-checkp…

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent.
