The following streets in Corona del Mar are closed until noon:

UPDATE  5:42 P.M.

The President is at his event in Holmby Hills. So no “Obama Jam Factor” right now…traffic is crummy now, just because it is
So Cal afternoon rush hourS on a rainy day!!

Starting at 6pm, LAPD says to avoid:

  • Sunset Blvd / Beverly Glen area
  • Wilshire Blvd / Santa Monica Blvd area

UPDATE5:15 P.M.

KCRW’s Anna Scott just sent me this photo saying that she was stuck on surface streets on the west side, and people are putting trash cans in the roadway so that drivers won’t use their side streets as alternates! People can’t we all just get along…?

UPDATE 4:55 P.M.
More from Total traffic

We’re seeing the opposite traffic pattern that we normally see when president Obama is in town.  Sunset Blvd is actually not too bad east of the 405 freeway.  Pico, Olympic and Santa Monica are all gridlocked between West LA and Beverly Hills.

From what we’ve seen… Santa Monica Blvd and Pico Blvd are gridlocked between West LA and Beverly Hills.

Still quiet around the VA and Sunset remains open according a reader.

Update 4:35pm

From our good friends at Total Traffic

He’s heading to Marine 1.

Most of the westside is at a standstill right now.  If you haven’t left work yet, wait until 6pm or so when he’s at the fundraiser.

4:13 p.m. UPDATE
The President has landed at LAX

Then he’ll go south to Orange County to attend an event in Corona Del Mar on tomorrow, February 16.

Shouldn’t be toooo bad. The President  won’t have to travel far between the airport and Holmby Hills.
Most closures are expected to be “rolling” which means police pick up the barricades as soon as the President’s motorcade has passed.

KCAL 9 is reporting that motorists should avoid Pico and Ave of the Stars as well as the other streets mentioned.

LA Department of Transportation is also telling motorists to avoid the area around Cheviot Hills Park.

Cheviot Hills Park being closed today.

The president is still scheduled to arrive at LAX around 4pm.

Either leave the westside right now, or wait until after 6:30pm when he will be at the Fundraiser.

According to the LAPD, the following area should be avoided if possible….

Pico Blvd and Avenue of the Stars, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Wilshire and Santa Monica Blvds, from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Sunset and Beverly Glen Blvds, from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

  • Sometime after 3pm: President arrives at LAX
  • Sometime between 3:45 and 4:15pm: President will be helicoptered from LAX to the VA
  • Sometime between 4:15pm and 5pm: President will be driven across the westside to the fundraiser at the home of soap opera mogul Bradley Bell in the Holmby Hills / Beverly Hills area.  Will Ferrell will host.
  • Major east-west streets most likely to be affected are Sunset and Wilshire.
  • Sometime between 8pm and 9pm: President will likely return to Beverly Hilton hotel to spend the night.  This may occur even earlier as the President is attending a breakfast fundraiser in Corona del Mar at 7am.

In addition to street closures, bus routes most likely to be affected include 2, 702, 4, 704, 20 and 720.
