A lot of LA commuters spend 2 to 3 hours a day more or less sitting in traffic. It’s no wonder we all don’t have road rage. Road rage comes from a kernel of truth. A feeling that a violation has been done to you, and that there is no justice. Plus that person that just cut you off has the nerve to drive off with his arm sticking out of the window, and displaying a rude hand gesture. And to top it off, this guy actually has a big smile on his face while disPLAYING SO SAID GESTURE! WHERE IS THE JUSTICE? THERE IS NO JUSTICE! I SCREam…oh wait, where was I? What was I talking about? Oh yeah, road rage. Let’s break it down a bit. There are so many things that can drive a person crazy while dealing with traffic “Pet Peeves” if you will. I thought I’d open the floor to invite KCRW personalities and you to vent. What’s your story? Let’s shine some light on our darkness and share our pet peeves. It’s a Pet Peeve Off! I’ll get the ball rolling. Not using your turn signal. I always hated that. Well, until being courteous and using it started to backfire and work against me. Now I wonder….
To signal, or not to signal–that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune by using the turn signal.
No traveller returns the same. Puzzles the will
How those speed up so as not to let one, not even Ophelia
Progress into the other lane.
Unworthy insolence with law’s delay will instead cut one off.
Perhaps not to signal- and take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them. With this currents turn awry.
One can slip into any lane at ones will or
Turn right where roads intersect. Thus
Force opposing travelers that wish to turn left
at the light have to sit and wait for no purpose.
Whilst not make he himself bear those ills we have to endure.
Though when we have shuffled off this “moral” coil, it
Must give us pause.
After all, if I join in the madness who have I become? What have I become? A reflection of frustration? A manifestor of anger? Creating a ripple effect of upset and stress that will affect not only my day, but will touch those around me perhaps? Now that I am at this fork in the road hmmmm… I reach down and put on my turn signal, I’m changing lanes.
