I love the people that listen to KCRW! Creative, talented and obviously very smart….
Meet Frank.*
If you don’t live in Los Angeles AND listen to KCRW, this song will likely mean nothing to you. But their traffic reporter has an unusual name that is just plain fun to say: Kajon Cermak (KAY-zhawn SER-mack). She comes on every day as I’m heading for the freeway with the traffic report that’s oh so critical to my quality of life, at least as far as commuting goes. Or if I’m riding my …

I’ve asked some of my co-workers at KCRW to share what they hate about driving…Aaron writes this for Shortcuts’ Pet Peeve Off. Whats yours!?
“When Kajon asked me to write a little blog post about traffic pet peeves, I thought what am I gonna write about? Fortunately for me, I was actually in traffic while I was thinking about this, just inching along the devil’s freeway, you know it as the 405.
“What’s going on! Ahhh, come on people!! I’m sooo glad I don’t have a gun.” these thoughts ran across my brain …

I have memories from early childhood that recall a positive, even righteous image of men in uniform. I’m sure many can identify with such innocent portraits in retrospect – back when school children would relish opportunities to experience an exchange with a fire man, or a police officer. Such moments could be sublime to a young child.
Some time after the inevitable dissolve of sweet childhood ignorance, I …

A lot of LA commuters spend 2 to 3 hours a day more or less sitting in traffic. It’s no wonder we all don’t have road rage. Road rage comes from a kernel of truth. A feeling that a violation has been done to you, and that there is no justice. Plus that person that just cut you off has the nerve to drive off with his arm sticking out of the window, and displaying a rude hand gesture. And to top it off, this guy actually has a big smile on …

Traffic can mean so many things. People engaging in trade with each other. Trafficking goods, that’s good. Trafficking drugs, that’s bad. Human trafficking, my God, that’s horrible. Data traffic, that’s cool. Satellite traffic, network traffic, a very good thing. So much traffic, and we haven’t even mentioned cars or freeways.
The word traffic was used to describe moving goods and people. Unless you’re talking cybertalk, today traffic usually refers to a bunch of vehicles – all being stuck in between each other. All those mufflers spewing toxic gas at you, while keeping …
