ited States Visit
The President of the United States Visits the Southland.
President Obama will be traveling in, and through Santa Monica, Rancho Mirage tomorrow, Friday 6/7/13.
You may have noticed, though still busy, hectic and slow the wide spread gridlock that shut down the city from Central LA to the especially affected westside for President Obama’s first visit, is now much better. Instead of an hour to drive one block, it is more like 20 minutes in sections of the City. (Excluding the all the streets that surround and feed on and off the 405 in the Westwood/Santa Monica area where you are already sitting an hour per block trying to get on the 405 during rush hours – ARRRRRGGG!!)
A lot was learned from that infamous first visit. Many changes have been implemented as a result. Some of those changes include better coordination with local law enforsement, rolling closures, and when possible attempting not to schedule Obama’s travel time during the height of LA TRAFFIC HELL!
That being said, it is still going to be a traffic mess. Basically, we are talking between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
YAY! In between the morning and afternoon commutes.
It still is a little early for specific roads to be mentioned. We find out more while the president is actually on the ground – in motion.
I won’t be on the air at that time in the studios of KCRW, as I report the traffic for the afternoon commute.
However, I will be I will be updating Shortcuts in real time.
Here is what we know so far…
Mr. Obama will arrive at LAX Friday at 10:30 a.m. for a Democratic National Committee event at the home of Hollywood executive Peter Chernin in Santa Monica.
The fundraiser is scheduled to last until 2 p.m.
In an effort to assist the public in avoiding possible traffic congestion during the visit of the President of the United States on June 7, 2013, the following areas of the City should be avoided when possible to prevent travel delays for community members:
Friday June 7, 2013
- The area around Centinela Avenue and West Olympic Boulevard from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and between the hours of 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- The area around West Olympic Boulevard and Cloverfield Boulevard from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and between the hours of 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- The area around 26th Street and San Vicente from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and between the hours of 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
