Metro Orange Line will speed travelers across the San Fernando Valley

Under Budget and Early, Celebrate the Opening of the Orange Line Extension with Entertainment and Free Rides.

 

Saturday, June 30 – Metro will celebrate the opening of the Orange Line Extension with fun-filled family events at two stations on Saturday, June 30. Festivities will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include food trucks, live music and much more.

Free rides on Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1.
From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. the Orange Line Extension from Canoga Station to Chatsworth Station the ride is on Metro.
It will be free both Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Regular fares will apply on all other Metro Rail, Metro Rapid and Metro Local lines.

Canoga Station

  • Ribbon cutting

  • Group led bicycle ride

Live performances by Two Dogs Band, triple trouble, Vocal Percussion Radio, West 79th Street Funk Jazz Band and more

Chatsworth Station

  • Ribbon cutting
  • Community booths
  • Food trucks
  • Petting zoo and pony rides for children provided by The Farm, first 20 children get a free pony ride
  • Motorcycle and rider dress up competition, first prize is a trophy and $100
  • Raffle to win bikes hosted by Cycle World

Live performances presented by Cowboy Palace – Country Gone Awry and Coldwater Canyon – and Metro Express

Metro Orange Line Extension features include:

  • A four-mile northern extension of the Metro Orange Line, extending from the Canoga Station to the Chatsworth Metrolink Station
  • Four new stations to be located at Sherman Way, Roscoe Blvd., Nordhoff St. and the Chatsworth Metrolink Station. New platforms to be added at Canoga Station
  • New bikeway and pedestrian path that will run parallel to the dedicated busway
  • Landscaping similar to that on the existing Metro Orange Line
  • New park and ride lot at Sherman Way Station
  • Additional parking at Chatsworth Station
  • Overcrossing of Lassen St. and the railroad tracks on an elevated bridge
  • Forecast to open summer 2012
  • All stations include public art
