In November 2008, Measure R was approved by a two-thirds majority, committing a projected $40 billion to traffic relief and transportation upgrades throughout the county over the next 30 years.
Measure R will help fund dozens of  transit and highway projects, create  210,000 new construction jobs and infuse an estimated $32 billion back into the local economy, according to estimates by the nonprofit Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation.

LAPD on alert for drunk drivers this Halloween weekend

The patrols and checkpoints will begin tonight and continue through Sunday evening. Police said Halloween is among the deadliest times of the year for impaired drivers.

Tonight, a checkpoint will be conducted in
Sherman Oaks at Ventura Boulevard and Columbus Avenue from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

DUI Checkpoint in South L.A. Tonight

Motorists traveling on Florence Avenue between Main and Broadway in South Los Angeles tonight can expect to encounter an LAPD sobriety and drivers license checkpoint slated to run from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. As usual, the LAPD has a regimented plan for the checkpoint in order to both penalize intoxicated drivers and to educate the public about the dangers of driving under the influence.
