If you are a regular reader of Shortcuts then you know my favorite holiday – it’s No Pants Subway Ride.
It’s time for fun, at least for us in LA, fun in the sun. I can’t imagine doing this and being half nakey the on the east coast where Improve Everywhere 13 years ago started the now global No Pants Subway Ride.

It’s official, tomorrow is the big day!
The rebuilt “flyover” ramp at the Wilshire/405 interchange will finally open.
All final barriers will be removed, and the Wilshire ramp will reopen 11/7/13 by 6 a.m., bringing an official end to “Ramp Jam” closures at Wilshire Boulevard in Westwood.

The following street closures will be in effect:
– San Vicente Boulevard between Melrose Avenue and Santa Monica will be closed all day, reopening at 7 a.m. Friday;
– Santa Monica between Doheny Drive and La Cienega Boulevard, including all side streets, will close at noon Thursday, reopening at 6 a.m. Friday.

A lot was learned from that infamous first visit. Many changes have been implemented as a result. Some of those changes include better coordination with local law enforsement, rolling closures, and when possible attempting not to schedule Obama’s travel time during the height of LA TRAFFIC HELL!
That being said it is still going to be a traffic mess. Basically, we are talking between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
YAY! In between the morning and afternoon commutes.

As I finish this post tonight, the Spring Fire has scorched over 8,000 acres, is 10% contained and burned from the 101 all the way to PCH in Malibu . Around 6:30 a.m. reports started coming in about a small brush fire in Camarillo. It quickly became a monster and was now licking it’s chops at the edge of my little neighborhood in Newbury Park.

May Day Marches will make driving and taking public transportation downtown Los Angeles tomorrow TODAY awful! Street closures are expected to last through 8 p.m.
