What time does the 405 close?
- Ramps will start closing starting at 7pm.
- Freeway lanes will close starting at 10pm.
- Complete closure at midnight.
A lot of hullabaloo last time and they opened up the freeway early!
I don’t expect that to be the case, there’s more work to do. Two columns supporting the bridge on this side, as opposed to just one last year. Dave Sotero, spokesperson for Metro told LAWeekly ,
The construction crews will have “twice as much work to do in the same amount of time, seeing as that side has two bridge columns instead of one.In July, crews finished the 53-hour shift with 17 hours to spare. But do the math — twice as much work, not twice as much time.”
Also, Caltrans will be doing some maintenance work at the same time - repaving and filling potholes.
There is a bit of a cushion factor built in to the schedule but officials doubt it will be completed early.
“What we are trying to point out is that the reason we had no big deal last summer is everybody stayed home,” said Zev Yaroslavsky, a member of the county Board of Supervisors. “It’s more complicated this time.”
INRIX is speculating…
As LA braces for Carmageddon II this weekend, will drivers experience the lack of traffic congestion like last year when it turned out to be one of the lightest freeway traffic weekends in LA history?
INRIX, the leading provider of traffic information and driver services, believes it’s unlikely we’ll see the dramatic traffic reductions observed a year ago.
In fact, if drivers don’t buy into the hype the second time around, INRIX predicts these Top 10 Bottlenecks as drivers adjust their routes this weekend:

When will the 405 open?
The freeway is scheduled to reopen by 6am on Monday, October 1st. Like last year there is a big incentive for the contractor to finish on time. If they run late – $6,000 for every lane of freeway every 10 minutes it remains closed.
Will there be police and emergency responders in the closure area?
“City Councilman Bill Rosendahl, whose district includes the affected 10- mile section of the San Diego (405) Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass, said extra personnel will be deployed at three fire stations serving the Mountain Gate community, Encino Hills, Bel-Air, Beverly Glen and West Los Angeles”, he reported to The Daily News.
“I’m very pleased that the LAFD has once again committed to increasing staffing levels in my geographically isolated communities to ensure my residents will not be put in peril should a significant emergency incident occur during this weekend closure,” Rosendahl said.
For a Red Flag Warning/disaster, LA Department of Transportation asks canyon residents to avoid street parking or face towing.
