LA Bike week gets off to a soggy start!

While out helping my wife setup a polling place early this morning, I noted several cyclists out riding in the rain.  While I respect their efforts, I try to avoid riding the wet streets as I don’t have a bike with fenders or appropriate rain gear to do so without making a big mess of myself and the bike.  (Been there, done that).

The Blessing of the Bicycles took place this morning at the Good Samaritan Hospital with a dampened turnout of soggy riders.  Tomorrow morning is  the Downtown LA Bike Ride as riders are to meet at Union Station on Alameda Street and ride through Downtown with other bike enthusiasts meeting at 8am.

Thursday is Bike to Work day with the rain forecast to clear to a 70 degree day.   Several pit stops are planned throughout the region in the morning and several happy hours planned for cyclists after work.   Also note that many public transit agencies are providing free rides to cyclists.

A friend of mine at Function Drinks was complaining about her 90 minute drive from Manhattan Beach to their offices in Culver City.   With a little prodding she eventually realized she could make the ride faster than she could drive it.   Function decided to make a contest of it and posted this on their Facebook page.

Take any bets on who placed 1st?

Leave your car & ride a bike Thursday.  Just do it.
