First let’s talk road closures, sidewalk closures, then we’ll get in to all the Metro Service issues. I will update as more information becomes available…
On a side note, the show will refer to the venue –
formerly known as the Kodak Theater — as the Hollywood & Highland Center.

Days Prior to Show (Monday, February 20, 2012):
- Close Hawthorn Alley on the east side of the El Capitan Theatre from Hollywood Boulevard south 210 feet to “T” of east/west alley from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2012.
2 Days Prior to Show (Friday, February 24, 2012):
- Close Hawthorn Avenue from Highland Avenue to Orange Drive from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012. School busses allowed on Friday only.
1 Day Prior to Show (Saturday, February 25, 2012):
- Close Orchid Street from 60 feet south of Franklin Boulevard to Orchid Alley from 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012 except for residents, emergency vehicles, and hotel loading.
- Close Orange Drive from Orchid Alley to Hollywood Boulevard from 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012. Exception for local residents, local business access, and emergency vehicles.
- Close north and south sidewalk of Hawthorn Avenue from Highland Avenue to Orange Drive from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012.
- Close north sidewalk of Hollywood Boulevard from Highland Avenue to Orange Drive from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012. MTA station to be by-passed from the last regularly scheduled train on Saturday, February 25 until the first scheduled train after 6 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2012. Pedestrian traffic rerouted to south sidewalk.
- Close west sidewalk of Highland Avenue from Johnny Grant Way south to Hollywood Boulevard from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012.
- Close Johnny Grant Way from Highland Avenue to Orchid Street from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012.
Day of Show (Sunday, February 26, 2012):
- Close remainder of Hawthorn Alley from Orange Drive to Highland Avenue from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012.
- Close Orange Drive from Hawthorn Avenue to Hollywood Boulevard from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012.
- Close north sidewalk of Hollywood Boulevard from Highland Avenue to 300 feet east of Highland Avenue in front of closed businesses from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012. Erect bike rack.
- Close south sidewalk of Hollywood Boulevard from Highland Avenue to 300 feet east of Highland Avenue from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012 except for 8-foot pedestrian access. Erect bike rack.
- Close south sidewalk of Hollywood Boulevard directly in front of the north-south running Hawthorn Alley from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012. Erect fencing along the entire sidewalk. No pedestrian access to cross alley.
- Close east sidewalk of Highland Avenue from Hollywood Boulevard to Hawthorn Avenue from 12:01 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012 except for 8-foot pedestrian access. Erect bike rack.
- Close west sidewalk of Highland Avenue from Hollywood Boulevard south to Hawthorn Avenue from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012 except for 8-foot pedestrian access. Erect bike rack and fencing.
- Close east sidewalk of Highland Avenue from Yucca Street south to the alley from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012 except for 8-foot pedestrian access.
- Close north and south crosswalks on Hollywood Boulevard at the Highland Avenue intersection from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012.
- Erect bike rack on the east curb of Highland Avenue from Hollywood Boulevard to the alley north of Hollywood Boulevard from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012.
- Close northbound and southbound 101-freeway off-ramps at Highland.
- Restricted access on streets that end at or intersect Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue at the discretion of the LAPD and LADOT.

Road Closures:
The first major closure began Sunday, Feb. 19, when authorities closed vehicle and pedestrian access to Hollywood Boulevard. Sidewalks on Hawthorn Avenue and Orange Drive will also be shut down.
But the bulk of the closures occur the day of the award show, starting at midnight.
- Highland Avenue will be closed from Franklin Avenue to Sunset Boulevard.
- The Hollywood Boulevard closure will extend to La Brea Avenue on the west and to Cahuenga on the East.
- Yucca Street, which runs parallel with Hollywood Boulevard, will be shutdown from Wilcox Avenue to Highland Avenue.
- Wilcox Avenue will be closed from the north side at Cahuenga Boulevard down to Sunset Boulevard.
Included with the street and sidewalk closures, police plan to close the northbound and southbound Highland Avenue 101-freeway off-ramps.
Metro Bus Service:
Metro Bus service along Hollywood Blvd detour schedule; Metro Rail trains to bypass Metro Red Line station at Hollywood/Highland on Sunday, Feb. 26
Five Metro Bus Lines (212/312, 217, 222 and 780) are on detour schedules due to street closures that started Sunday, Feb. 19, in the Hollywood area due to preparations for the Academy Awards show that will be held in the Kodak Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland complex on Sunday, Feb. 26.
Metro Red Line trains will operate on a regular schedule with no delays in service but will pass through the Hollywood/Highland station without stopping on Sunday, Feb. 26. With the start of regular service on Monday, Feb. 27, all Metro Red Line trains will resume stops at the Hollywood/Highland Station.
The Hollywood/Highland station will close after the last train departs in the early morning hours of Sunday, Feb. 26 and reopen for regular service on Monday, Feb. 27. During that time, there will be no public access to the Hollywood/Highland Metro Red Line station. Metro Red Line patrons are advised to to use the Hollywood/Vine station as an alternate and transfer to nearby bus service or walk.
Metro Bus lines 212/312, 217, 222 and 780 are detoured along Hollywood Boulevard between Highland Avenue and La Brea Avenue through 6 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, or until barridcades are removed. Normal service should resume by 6 a.m. on Thursday, March 1. (Note: Line 780 has no weekend service on Saturday or Sunday.)
On the day of the event, Sunday, Feb. 26, Bus lines 156, 212, 222 and 217 will be detoured along Hollywood Boulevard between La Brea Avenue and Cahuenga Boulevard and on
Highland Ave between Franklin Avenue and Sunset Boulevard through 6 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 27 or until barricades are removed.
