Bringing Back Broadway – an upcoming LA nexus to transport yourself to…
If you have traveled to downtown Los Angeles and driven, bicycled or walked down Broadway then you know that the hodge-podge of discount electronics stores, discount garment stores and discount “everything else” that line both sides of Broadway from 2nd to Olympic belies the grandeur of once was the Theatre District of Los Angeles.
That grandeur, and the energy and vibrancy that accompanies it, is making a distinct comeback through the Bringing Back Broadway plan, a public private partnership sponsored by Councilman Jose Huizar and supported by developers, retailers, non-profit organizations and other contributors.
This plan to revitalize the Historic Theatre District focuses on transportation, urban planning & design, historic preservation, economic development and infrastructure improvements.
.
Central to the Bringing Back Broadway plan is installing a street car system that will tie in critical locations to the Theatre District – Bunker Hill, the Financial District, South Park, the Fashion District and the LA Live complex.

One more step in the process took place this morning with the Broadway 100 press conference that was held at the Million Dollar Theatre celebrating the 100th anniversaries of three of Broadway’s theatres – Palace, Arcade & Cameo. Today’s kick-off also provided more details for the summer-long celebration series including REDCAT’s Broadway debut April 2nd & 3rd at the Million Dollar Theatre.
So, will I see YOU strolling down Broadway soon and taking in some new/old theatre? Let me know what you think…
