Last weekend’s Holiday DUI crackdown AVOID resulted in more arrests than last year.
The first weekend of the Avoid 100 anti-DUI holiday
campaign throughout Los Angeles County resulted in the arrests of more
motorists for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol than last year,
authorities said today.
Between Friday at 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. Sunday, officers from 100
county law enforcement agencies made 598 arrests. …

In the San Fernando Valley, all but one lane of the 5 Golden State Freeway will close in both directions between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. seven days per week because of a widening project. Holiday Crackdown! DUI Checkpoints Begins this Weekend.
A comprehensive study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found, that when well-publicized sobriety checkpoints were conducted, alcohol-related crashes and fatalities decreased by more than 20 percent.
Transportation officials credit the increase in DUI checkpoints for the nearly 17% reduction in alcohol-related deaths in California, and for an overall nationwide decline in such deaths.The LAPD has 132 sobriety checkpoints scheduled throughout the course of next year.
