Upcoming World Music Shows: Omar Faruk Tekbilek & Ana Moura

There are two forthcoming shows I am excited about and I wanted to share my enthusiasm.

The first is Turkish virtuoso and sufi artist Omar Faruk Tekbilek. He comes here for two rare shows.

The second show is by one of my favorite fado singers, Ana Moura.

Both Omar Faruk Tekbilek and Ana Moura, though coming from very different musical traditions, take us on a musical journey with deep roots and history. Tekbilek, born in Turkey, is a virtuoso oud and ney (type of bamboo flute) player, bendir drummer, a seeker as well. Sufi music is devotional always about seeking truth. Ana Moura is one of Portugal’s greatest fado singers; fado is the national song form of Portugal, and the music has a fine filigree that appeals to both world music and classical music aficionados. I have seen all her shows and assure you that you will, like me, be enthralled by her show.
