1.  The Fish Tank Ensemble is an American band that specializes in Romanian and Hungarian gypsy music.  They are high-energy and great musicians as well.  The event is free this Friday, 6/21 at 8pm @ the Levitt Pavilion, MacArthur Park.

2) And yes, it’s a Sophie’s Choice but take solace in that even though these shows are on the same night, these 2 groups are very, very different and different stylistically.  The other show is The Arsenio Rodriguez Project which is also this Friday, 6/21 at 8pm @ the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) and is a celebration of the phenomenal Cuban tres player Arsenio Rodriguez.

The MOLAA night will feature some legendary Cuban musicians such as singer Perico Hernandez and veteran tres virtuoso Nelson Gonzalez will do right for the late great Arsenio Rodriguez.

below is the only extant video clip of Arsenio…it’s kind of dark but he’s visible at the beginning of this Miguelito Cuni / Felix Chappotin classic song.
