(SANTA MONICA) Monday, September 23 — On Sunday, October 6, KCRW and Street Food Cinema will host a night celebrating one of LA’s most influential record labels, Stones Throw Records.
It will include an outdoor screening of the documentary “Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton: This is Stones Throw Records” and opening DJ sets from Garth Trinidad and label founder Peanut Butter Wolf.
Tickets are available now at www.kcrw.com/vinyl.
The screening event at Exposition Park will also include at least six food trucks: Hungry Nomad, CJs Wings, Phantom Food Truck, Romolo’s Truck, Beignet Truck, Southern Fried Vegan. Outside food and beverage is permitted. Also, dogs are allowed!
“Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton” is a celebration of LA, art, risk taking and, most of all, music.
The documentary film illustrates the extraordinary history behind Stones Throw Records, featuring never-before-seen archival material, inner-circle home video, commentary by the likes of Kanye West, Questlove, Common, and others.
“Stones Throw began in 1996 as a home to rich, quality hip hop music with a flare for the classic and unconventional. Wrapped around various triumphs and tragedies, Stones Throw was set on a path of constant evolution and creative growth,” said Trinidad.
“It is home to a myriad of groundbreaking artists and projects that have and continue to inspire millions of people around the world to hear and see music differently.”
Early arrival is suggested as all tickets are general admission and seating in on a first come, first served basis.
This KCRWMoves event is made possible by the Mercedes-Benz Dealers of Southern California.
KCRWMoves is an initiative to bring the music discovery found on KCRW’s airwaves out into communities via a specially wrapped music mobile.
