KCRW’s Free Concert Series Summer Nights Is Back!

The public radio station’s all ages, outdoor

live music series kicks off in June.

SANTA MONICA, CA, May 24, 2012 KCRW (89.9FM and KCRW.com) is bringing back its signature free, all ages, outdoor concert series Summer Nights, with live shows across Southern California, starting in June.

As a public radio station devoted to serving the community and LA’s premiere music tastemaker, KCRW is pleased to present a wide range of artists out in the sun and under the stars from June until September.

The series kicks off on Saturday, June 9 at One Colorado in Old Pasadena with an evening set of simple, sublime, melodic pop from Bahamas, the musical pseudonym of former Feist touring guitarist Afie Jurvanen. Next, from the deep woods of North Carolina, 6-piece buzz band Delta Rae will deliver a powerhouse set of gospel, country, folk and rock on June 23.

KCRW has also partnered with a number of distinguished cultural organizations, including the Hammer Museum and the Annenberg Space for Photography.

The Hammer Museum shines a spotlight on emerging and under-recognized LA artists in their upcoming Made in L.A. 2012 biennial exhibition and KCRW DJs will spin sets in the museum’s outdoor courtyard with that theme in mind on Thursdays for seven consecutive weeks starting June 28.

KCRW will present three Saturday nights of live music in the heart of Century City at the Annenberg Space for Photography on July 14, July 21 and August 4 to coincide with the exhibition Who Shot Rock & Roll: A Photographic History, 1955 to the Present. Raphael Saadiq, Moby, Portugal. The Man, and Band of Skulls are among the featured artists.  (These shows require an RSVP)

Also, KCRW will be making stops at the pier in Santa Monica for 10 Thursday night concerts as part of the Twilight Concert Series, providing the soundtrack to two late night dance parties in the center of Chinatown on August 11 and 25, and heading Downtown for the popular Grand Performances concert series, which will include the North American debut of Nitin Sawhney (with a full band), electronic Middle Eastern sounds from Niyaz and Chilean hip hop artist Ana Tijoux.

All KCRWSummer Nights” events are free and all ages.
