TsutsuiIt’s been 60 years since Godzilla trampled Tokyo, and KCRW’s Madeleine Brand talks to a life-long lover of the big green guy about “the cosmic question” that he (?!) represents.

William Tsutsui (pictured at left in his early days) is Dean of Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences at SMU and a specialist in modern Japanese business and economic history. He also wrote “Godzilla on My Mind: Fifty Years of the King of Monsters.”

A new, digital print of the original 1954 “Gojira” (sans Raymond Burr) will be playing the Cinematheque’s Egyptian Theater this Saturday, May 3rd, and then around town for the following two weeks or so. A brand new “Godzilla” movie opens next weekend as well.

What a great interview. Tsutsui’s passion for Godzilla runs deep. Madeleine asks, “Is Godzilla is a he?” And what about King Kong. Sexing lizards? This interview had it all.
