Yes, I know there is a lot of list-o-mania out there right now (Phoenix pun, pretty bad) but I wanted to add one more to the pile. Earlier this month, NPR Music asked Jason Bentley to share his Top 5 LA Albums of the Year.
I think everyone agrees it was an INCREDIBLE year for music in SoCal. KCRW plays music from all over the world, but our playlists were consistently topped by local artists all year. And, let’s be honest, there is a little bit of a pride thing too …

Cut Chemist and Cheech Marin will join Ozomatli for ¡Viva Mexico!, the last show in KCRW’s World Festival at the Hollywood Bowl this Sunday, September 19. KCRW DJ Raul Campos will host the evening, which includes a diverse lineup of both local and international acts that exemplify the important influence of our Mexican heritage, including Calexico and Mexican Institute of Sound with special guests Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles, Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Company, Banda Lluvia de Estrellas, Mr. Vallenato and Los Chicanos Especiales. Five KCRW DJs remixed songs from Ozomatli’s fifth studio album  “Fire Away” (Mercer Street / Downtown Records) and they are now available for purchase on iTunes for the first time. KCRW’s Raul Campos is hitting the East Coast next week to host the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC). KCRW is the radio sponsor for the event and Raul will be hosting the festivities — including a bunch of free shows – as well broadcasting from New York City with special guests on July 8 and 9.
