KCRW DJ Jeremy Sole will be spinning a set of African music at the Geffen Playhouse this Wednesday as part of the opening night festivities for the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama “Ruined.”
Sole is a master of all kinds of world music, which he plays regularly on his weekly KCRW show, among many other things, and in his many residencies around town, including my personal favorite – Afro-Funké on Thursdays at Zanzibar.
The play takes place in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and features two live musicians onstage (a guitarist and a …

On August 17, Tru Thoughts records released an EP by UK producer, deejay and vocalist NATURAL SELF called “MY HEART BEATS: Remixes and Versions“. The release is a follow-up to his “My Heart Beats Like a Drum” album, and includes two remixes of by KCRW’s own Jeremy Sole, featuring the beautiful vocals of Elodie Rama. Sole flips the sultry original “Midnight Sun” into a blues-like stomp, with dubby horns and scatting vocals. His second version is the same song without drums, for a more etheric feel. It’s out now on …

WOW. I heard the recent performance by the Miguel Atwood-Ferguson ensemble (with MANY special guests) in Downtown LA a few weeks ago was magical, but this video really proves it.
It was part of the free Grand Performances music series and sponsored by KCRW, with our own Aaron Byrd and Jeremy Sole hosting the evening. Check out some pics from the evening and join us on Saturday, August 21 for a show with Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich Fussible, Mr Vallenato and Ceci Bastida. Find more info here

From KCRW DJ Jeremy Sole:
He folds his bandana, evenly, calmly, like it’s a ritual he has kept for years. He places it on the music stand next to the sheet music of the opening song. Miguel reaches down to pick up his viola while his ensemble — and over 4,000 people in the middle of Downtown LA — await the first note. If they were not devoted fans before that note, they were after.
On Friday, July 23rd 2010, KCRW and Grand Performances hosted the Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble. This outdoor, free, …

From DJ Jeremy Sole:
I just finished a mix for Tru Thoughts records that I spent FOREVER making, and am very proud of. It’s called “Lo Mejor y Sabor de QUANTIC: A Retrospective of Will Holland” (it translates loosely into “The Best and Flavor of QUANTIC”). I designed the artwork, utilizing previously unseen photos by B+ (Mochilla), and the mix contains my faves as well as completely unheard songs by Quantic, like him covering J-Dilla on accordion and excerpts from the Mochilla film on him. It’s available for download now, please …
