Ever been diagnosed with a bad case of the clap? We’ve all been there before, amirite? Luckily, the Shins are here for you with a fantastic new product: Clapping Butter.
And unlike some bands who try to take advantage of their fans with ridiculous merch you’d likely never need or want, Clapping Butter actually serves a practical purpose (just be sure you DO NOT touch yourself down there if you use it. I can’t stress that enough).

The Shins‘ new album, Port of Morrow, is set for release next week. Early word …

New Mos Def…errr, Yasiin Bey produced by J Dilla!

Yasiin Bey (the artist formerly known as Mos Def) debuted a brand new J Dilla-produced track during an appearance at Radio Nova in Paris last week and it is pure FIIIIYYYYAAA!
“Sunshine Screwface” is the upteenth posthumous beat released from Dilla whose unearthed work shows no signs of letting up and is a tribute to the sheer volume of amazing work he left behind. That beat…That trumpet! I’m about to fall out of my seat listening to it for the 50th time! Little Royal & The Swingmasters should be proud.

Yasiin slays …

Travis’ Two Cents (In Five Parts) #14

I’m DJ Travis Holcombe and you can catch me on the air on Tuesday nights at midnight~3AM (which is technically Wednesday morning). Here are my two cents:
1) Until the new Hot Chip album is ready, we’ll all have to settle for the myriad side projects the Alexis, Joe, Al & Felix send our way. Of the lot, my favorite side group thus far has been Joe Goddard‘s 2 Bears project with Raf Rundell. 2 Bears‘ makes fun, bouncy dance music somewhat reminiscent of Hot Chip‘s The Warning/Made In The Dark …

1) What has former LCD Soundsystem front man and DFA Records label head James Murphy been up to lately?
Since you ask, Murphy will be starring alongside Tim Heidecker (who will be on  KCRW’s Guest DJ Project next week) and Eric Wareheim (of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!) in a new film screening in competition at Sundance this year called The Comedy. James Murphy will be flexing his acting chops as an aging Brooklyn hipster in the film.
Quick! Somebody call Kim Masters! I smell an Oscar for Best Supporting …

Travis’ Two Cents (In Five Parts) #12

I’m DJ Travis Holcombe and you can catch me on the air on Tuesday nights at midnight~3AM (which is technically Wednesday morning). Here are my two cents:
1) When the Cults announced they were doing a hip hop mixtape with the likes of Lil B and Freddie Gibbs a few months ago, I was pretty skeptical about the whole endeavor. There isn’t much to point to on any of their previous releases that would indicate that (a) they had any interest in hip hop, (b) they could actually pull it off. …

Travis’ Two Cents (In Five Parts) #11

I’m DJ Travis Holcombe and you can catch me on the air on Tuesday nights at midnight~3AM (which is technically Wednesday morning). Here are my two cents:
1) I’m not going to even front and act like I know all that much about Rammstein — they’re German, they wear black, they play aggressive industrial-tinged metal, and they’re slightly unsettling for all of those reasons. Then I saw this Beach Boys meets Gidget-inspired video and now my whole world has been turned (almost) upside down.
Note before watching: the last minute is a …

Travis’ Two Cents (In Five Parts) #9

I’m Travis Holcombe and you can catch me on the air on Tuesday nights at midnight~3AM (which is technically Wednesday morning). Here are my two cents:

1) Last week, via Big Boi‘s twitter account,  came word of a collaboration between KCRW‘s favorite Swedes, Little Dragon and Big Boi of Outkast. Judging from the excitement of the parties involved this should be pretty great. Expect to hear the two tracks they cut on Big Boi‘s forthcoming solo album, Daddy Fat Saxxx: Soul Funk Crusader, said to be released sometime in early 2012. Having …

Travis’ Two Cents (In Five Parts)

I’m Travis Holcombe and you can catch me on the air on Tuesday nights at midnight~3AM (which is technically Wednesday morning). Here are my two cents:
1) For all of you lamenting the dissolution of R.E.M. — GOOD NEWS! There’s still a little music left in the tank. Three songs to be exact. Rolling Stone is now streaming R.E.M.‘s latest (and *last*) single entitled “We All Go Back To Where We Belong“.
The track will appear alongside two other new songs, “A Month Of Saturdays” and “Hallelujah” on R.E.M.‘s retrospective album Part …

Travis’ Two Cents (In Five Parts)

Hello again.
I’m Travis Holcombe. I’m a new(ish) DJ here at KCRW and you can catch me on the air on Tuesday nights at midnight~3AM (which is technically Wednesday morning). This is my regular blog post where I ramble about whatever pops in my head.
Let’s go!
1) The Black Keys have a new album coming out on December 6 co-produced by Danger Mouse. To promote the release of the new album, entitled El Camino, they’ve released this hilarious video starring Bob Odenkirk (Breaking Bad, Mr. Show)
The video gives absolutely NO indication of …
