10 years ago we had Jobs, Hope and Cash…now we don’t have any of those. :\
If someone had intimated 20 years ago that Norway would the be epicenter for a modern Space Disco movement, it would have seemed like an absurd claim, as nobody cared about Disco and a great number of American’s wouldn’t have been able to point at Norway on a map.
Although Röyksopp’s Melody A.M. …

Round: Artist You Should Know

Posted February 11, 2015 by | 0 Comments | 1,111 views]
round_front_1000

John Talabot‘s mindblowing DJ Kicks compilation was not only one of the year’s most exciting mixtapes, it featured a number of notable tracks which, at the time, were unavailable and unreleased.
The Locked Groove rework of Pional’s “It’s All Over Now” was a highlight. Round’s “Glass“ was another.
Talabot’s Hivern Discs released a 12″ of Round tracks, which like most Hivern releases, are rare and highly sought after booty on Discogs.
A …

John Tejada Reveals his Warm Signs…

john-tejada-signs-under-test

L.A. techno wizard John Tejada has released a number of remarkably lush albums and 12″s for Kompakt in the last few years.
Now, he’s released what is arguably his loveliest, most accomplished work.
The full length, “Signs Under Test” skitters and throbs with dreamy muted technological weariness and ecstatic hope in equal measure giving the album a sublimely human aspect.
Where mechanized funk generally tends to exist in a …

Friday Free For All: Aphex Twin/Tom Waits Mashup + Disclosure Remix

Eskmo – “Aphex Waits”
On the surface, Tom Waits and Aphex Twin would seem to very little in common.
While Waits is a gravelly voiced singer-songwriter whose style might best be described as leftfield interpretations of pre-war jazz and blues, Aphex Twin trades in futuristic experiments in electronics.
LA-based producer, Eskmo, manages to meld the seemingly disparate worlds together in a mash-up that defies expectations and manages …

KCRW Premiere: Oceaan Remixed by Young & Sick

Oceaan Promo for KCRW

Young & Sick aka Nick Van Hofwegen made a big impression on us at SXSW with his electronic soul and now he’s taken on one of our favorite tracks of the moment, “Veritas” by Manchester-via-Brussels producer Oceaan.
He strips back some of the original’s layers of sound for a more simple approach that somehow manages to give the song MORE impact. I love what he’s …

Desert Sound Colony: Artist You Should Know

Posted December 3, 2014 by | 0 Comments | 1,760 views]
desertsoundcolony

Back in October, without warning or much accompanying information, Brooklyn-based House label, run by Francis Harris and Anthony Collins, Scissor & Thread released a stunning 4 track EP by Desert Sound Colony.
Moody, downtempo grooves that occupy a new space between chill-out electronica and swirling indie psych rock.
“The Way I Began“ EP is immediately familiar but doesn’t quite sound exactly like anything else. The closest …

Psychemagik’s COSMIC CODE Mix

psychemagik cosmicc

The rad dudes of Psychemagik collaborated with video artist Ari Russo for a one-off, live improvised performance  at The Ace Hotel’s Miranda Bar in Shoreditch, called “Cosmic Code.”
Diving into their unbelievably deep stacks of records and VHS tapes and laserdiscs, Psychemagik mined thousands of sources for tracks, clips and samples to create a unique soundtrack which they played over a gnarly collection of found footage, manipulated by Russo.
The result by all accounts was a decidely …

It’s a Wonderful Life – Joakim Shares His in a New Video

Posted November 5, 2014 by | 0 Comments | 1,082 views]
joakim2

Earlier this year, Joakim released a fantastic album called Tropics of Love. It’s a truly spectacular album from a truly spectacular artist.
One of the highlights of the album is an autobiographical jam called “This is My Life” that traces (with heartbreaking sincerity) epic and sometimes mundane life-changing moments in Joakim’s life.
After an instrumental bridge, he plaintively asks the listener, “This is my life. What will you do with it?” and it’s one …
