Most Anticipated Albums of 2017

Are you looking for a reason to get excited about 2017? How about 20 reasons?

The xx – “I See You” — January 13 / Young Turks

The UK trio’s third studio album, was recorded in London, Texas, New York, Reykjavik, and LA. I was lucky enough to get an early listen and I can assure you, y’all are in for a treat!

Ryan Adams – “Prisoner” — February 3 / Blue Note

Ryan Adams mined his personal life – including his recent divorce – to write his latest album, an experience he describes as “cathartic.” He gave us some clues about the new release when he stopped by the station in August.

Temples – March 3 / Fat Possum

English four-piece Temples achieved international acclaim with their debut album, “Sun Structures”. Our first taste from their sophomore effort – “Certainty” – is very promising

Portugal. the Man – “Gloomin and Doomin” — TBD

PTM’s new album has been in the works for some times. I heard rumors they were recording here in LA with Mike D (yes, of Beastie Boys fame) and we finally got a taste with the release of the single “Noise Pollution”.

The Shins – “Heartworms” — March 10 , Apothecary/Columbia Records

Around Halloween, The Shins shared the aptly titled “Dead Alive”, giving us a hint of new music to come. Now we can confirm that is indeed the case with the March 10th release of Heartworms. Check out the brandnew single below.

Ty Segall – “Ty Segall” — January 27 / Drag City records

The LA-based fuzz rocker is incredibly prolific and his self-titled 9th studio record is one we’re really looking forward to.

Electric Guest – TBD /early 2017
Word on the street is that a rough breakup inspired the songs behind this album. Whatever the inspiration, the results are fantastic judging by the lead single, “Dear To Me”, featuring backup vocals by Haim.

Elbow – “Little Fictions” – Feb/March release date

Longtime UK faves released a gorgeous single – “Magnificent (She Says)” – in the latter part of 2016, cueing up our excitement for fresh material. It will be their 7th studio album.

Tennis – “Yours Conditionally” / March 10

We love this husband-wife led band. They never disappoint.

Gabriel Garzon Montano – “Jardin” January 27 / Stones Throw

This NY-based artist is already a KCRW favorite and his soon-to-be-released full length is a stunner.

And a short list of other artists with albums due in 2017, all TBD
