Week Ahead Today’s Top Tune 10.24 – 10.28.16

As October draws to a close, we turn to the following artists for Today’s Top Tune: In the middle of a massive tour, Jenny O. keeps her music deceptively simple.  MNDSGN tweeks our musical perspective. We hear Temples playful and harmonious new song. We share a track from a trio that’s emerged from the underground called Cubicolor and LA based Ceci Bastida gets some help from Aloe Blacc.

Monday, Oct 24, MNDSGN “Cosmic Perspective” from Body Wash

MNDSGN turns to artists like Dave Grusin who he feels embody the feeling of early 80’s boogie/funk/soul/jazz/fusion wave that helped inspire his latest set of songs but for Today’s Top Tune, he gravitated toward early 90’s R& B for a little  Cosmic Perspective.

Embodying a freewheeling California sound Jenny O continues her lo-fi songwriting style with a new album. Simple sounding songs with catchy melodies abound. Try this as today’s mantra… “Cheer Up Free Your Mind.”

Wednesday, Oct 26, Temples “Certainty”

In 2014, Temples found themselves on a short list of Top 10 debut album in the UK. By the sound of their new song Certainty, 2017 promises a sturdy new album by this quartet.

Brainsugar is the title to Cubicolor’s debut album. It’s a great description to what my brain felt like when I first heard the album. Coming up through the European underground, they count Pete Tong as a fan. A tasty track is “Falling.”

Inspired by social justice and the world around her, Tijuana punk pioneer Ceci Bastida collaborates with several artists on her forthcoming EP.  Top of the list is Aloe Blacc who joins her on
“Un Sueño” or “A Dream.”
