Four Songs You Should Hear Right Now: Bop English, Seagulls, Jessie Ware, Classixx remix

Jessie Ware – “Meet Me in the Middle”

For a second weekend, Fifty Shades of Grey took the top spot at the box office.

While I have no plans to see the movie, I’m pleased it birthed a surprisingly good soundtrack, particularly this sexy song from Jessie Ware.

If by any chance you missed her last full length, this is the track you need to hear.

Seagulls – “You and Me”

This is a little gem I happened upon on the interwebs. The Philadelphia quintet merge garage and surf rock with a bit of 60’s doo wop for a dreamy pop song. It’s super simple but I love it.

The track appears on their new album, “Great Pine”, released earlier this month.

Bop English – Dani’s Blues (It Was Beyond Our Control)

It’s no secret we’re big White Denim fans around here. While Austin Jenkins and Josh Block have been busy producing the forthcoming debut from Leon Bridges (who just released a great new track), singer James Petralli has made a record as Bop English.

And bop it does! The keys, which kick off the track, immediately signal this is a poppier, more light hearted affair than the full force rock attack of WD.

A full album is due in mid-April. It’s been in the works for four years and features members of White Denim and Shearwater.

Classixx – “Pleasure Principle (Classixx Recovery Mix)”

DJ Anthony Valadez loves to throw a little Janet Jackson into his DJ sets now and then and I always love it. She is part of my musical DNA and a guiltless pleasure.

LA’s own Classixx took on this 80’s favorite using Shep Pettibone’s Pleasure Principle (A Capella) from 1986 and offered it as a Valentine’s Day gift. It’s a free download if you follow them on Soundcloud!

They also noted they’re working on their sophomore release in South Africa!

I also feel obliged to include a link to this excellent remix of “If” by Kaytranada.
