UK band Django Django’s 2012 self-titled debut was one of my personal favorite albums of that year.
Unlike a lot of their wavy peers, The Djangos take the high road with their sun-kissed psychedelia, exploring lightness instead of being mired in the din of a heavy fuzz.
Where some might be sitting on the ground sorting it out, Djangos is the sound of taking off running through a field and suddenly stopping because maybe you heard something, then laughing it off and continuing to run towards the sun.
There is a twitchy edge that recalls The Beta Band but mostly they feel like The Monkees, if Nilsson and Donovan were members.
In advance of a forthcoming new release, yesterday Django Django released the first taste of their new work, “First Light“.
It is perfectly perfect Django Django and that’s a good thing.
