RIP Ian McLagan

I’m so sad to hear of the passing of Ian McLagan, keyboardist and founding member of the Small Faces, which evolved into supergroup The Faces, featuring fellow music luminaries Jeff Beck, Ronnie Lane, Ron Wood and frontman Rod Stewart.

With keys that cut straight to the heart, Ian McLagan is the entry point on one of my favorite songs, “Glad and Sorry”.

The Faces were a raucous bar band at their best, but their softer side is often what I crave listening to the most. Particularly this song, and all because of Ian.

McLagan produced a 2004 Faces retrospective “Five Guys Walk Into a Bar… It’s an incredible box set well worth owning even if you consider yourself a casual fan – it will make you a much bigger one.

The 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee also played with the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Bonnie Raitt, among others.
