KCRW Music Librarian Picks of the Week! Wampires, Ex Hex, S

S (Jenn Ghetto)

KCRW Music Librarian and DJ Eric J Lawrence shares three albums he added to the KCRW Music Library this week that should be on your radar.

Wampire – Bazaar (Polyvinyl)

Portland, OR-based indie rockers Wampire live up to their creepy name, with the hint of a gothic flavor haunting their catchy tunes.  Touchstones include the Damned, the Horrors and Unknown Mortal Orchestra (whose Jacob Portrait produced this new album).

Ex Hex – Rips (Merge)

Over the past 25 years, Mary Timony has been somewhat of an unsung hero of the alternative singer/songwriter scene.  After her work in bands such as Helium and White Flag, as well as on her own solo records, Timony has a crunchy new trio who sound like a cross between the Cars & the Runaways.

S – Cool Choices (Hardly Art)

Jenn Ghetto was a founding member of the cult favorite Seattle band Carissa’s Wierd.  Their breakup spawned such bands as Band of Horses and Grand Archives, as well as Sera Cahoone’s solo career.  Ghetto has released a number of her own stripped-down folk-rock albums under the name S, but her latest expands her sound in a pleasant direction.
