Electric Lady Janelle Monae Kicks Off the World Festival This Weekend

Written by

KCRW couldn’t have picked a better line up to kick off this year’s World Festival at the Hollywood Bowl.

Words like explosive and intoxicating best describe the intense output of all the artists set to hit the stage.

Janelle Monae has been lauded by press and peers as one of this generation’s most impressive live performers.

Her progressive approach to R&B, Funk, and soul is equal parts James Brown, Janet Jackson, and Blade Runner.

**Editor’s Note: if you missed her live performance on KCRW a few years back, it’s well worth revisting. She is a STAR!)

Returning once again with Fela’s original Egypt 80 band is Afrobeat’s youngest son, Seun Kuti.

The powerful polyrhythmic sound and visual spectacle of polished players, dreamy dancers, and brilliant colors is nothing  short of sensational.

Opening the show, taking stylish cues from the likes of John Legend and Van Hunt is R&B, soul newcomer Roman GianArthur.

Just another unforgettable night under the stars in LA.

See you there!
